Okay, so this isn't the best Chinese food I've had. But it is the best I can get takeout and it still be hot when I get home. If you're dining in, the place is usually empty/near empty, even when you expect a rush. Their time estimates are usually accurate or longer than it actually takes. So I leave more or less immediately after placing the order online/over the phone.
We were pleasantly surprised to find good Cantonese food while visiting Columbus recently. China House is a nice family run restaurant that serves both standard Chinese American entrees and authentic Hong Kong style dishes such as beef rice noodle (chow fun) and Cantonese chow mein. For the most part, the dishes were good. On two visits, we tried beef rice noodle, Singapore noodle, yang chow fried rice, mapo tofu, salt and pepper squid and much more. While some of the vegetables didn't seem to fit into the entrees such as lotus root and cauliflower, the flavors were generally good. Prices also seemed a bit high for what you get. Perhaps that's standard for Columbus. That said, service is good, friendly and fast. The owners seem very nice. We'll definitely return the next time we're in Columbus.
Food and service is always great. Looks like after all this time they have increased their prices.
I've tried a ton of Chinese restaurants in Columbus, this has been my favorite for 20 years. Best egg rolls in the city, hands down. Friendly fast service. Authentic (I've been to China HK many times) and always delivers. I even like their Chop Suey, which is usually not a stellar dish, but they execute it very well. General Tso vegetable is my go-to dish, quite good. Only downside is that the recipe recently changed, and they add pepper flakes instead of the whole hot peppers. Still good, but I prefer to choose when to get a roasting hot mouth when eating General Tso, and not have a hot dish the whole way through. Chinese vegetable soup is quite nice, as is the wor dip har and wor sue upp.
