I’ve lived in Swindon for a long time and seen this pub change a lot. Haven’t been for a long time but decidedly to give it a go on date night. The venue is clean and nicely decorated, with the almost compulsory hairy cow paintings that seem to be everywhere these days. It was really well staffed and service was excellent. A few things let it down. We were sat right next to a radiator which meant we got steadily hotter during the meal. By the end, my wife was getting embarrassed because her face had gone red. The table area wasn’t proper cleaned, with previous customer food remaining under the menus. Some food was smeared under the table and got all over my wife’s shoe, which needed cleaning when we returned home. The main problem was that the burgers were undercooked. We didn’t realise until we’d eaten most of them. The waitress gave us the impression that the chef wasn’t bothered about this. This is really disturbing. The one thing you expect a restaurant to do is cook the food and avoid poisoning your patrons. Probably won’t be returning due to the foid safety. If you do attend, check your meat before eating it. Or go vegan. It’s difficult to undercook a nut.
I have dined at this restaurant before and it was satisfactory. However, I was quite disappointed with my experience this time. We opted for the carvery, which was decent but nothing remarkable. After we finished our meal, the waitress asked if we wanted dessert and gave us some time to look at the menus. When she returned, she informed us that there was another group waiting for our table and asked if we could please pay and leave. I mentioned that we had not yet received our desserts. She apologized and left, only to return 5 minutes later to ask if we had ordered desserts, to which we replied that she had not come back to take our order. Eventually, we did receive our desserts and left at our own pace. The restaurant was not busy, with free tables on either side of us, so it was unclear why there was a sudden rush for us to vacate. It should not be difficult to keep track of tables and their progression through the courses. Although the waitress was polite and apologetic, the disorganization was unacceptable. I am uncertain if I would choose to dine here again.
The lamb shank at this restaurant is incredible. I was seated quickly and my order was taken within minutes, with the food arriving in just 5 minutes. The service was impressively fast. The staff were friendly, although I was not checked on to see if everything was okay. I appreciated that the waitresses worked seamlessly together, ensuring that tables were quickly cleaned and reset for the next guests as soon as they became empty.
Arrived for a table of 8 at 7:45pm on a Friday the staff were very nice and friendly and showed us to our table straight away, it was very busy with most tables taken, we ordered our drinks which arrived fairly quickly, we then all ordered our food, now for me personally I’m a big “Burger” fan and tend to order some sort of burger meal whenever we go somewhere new so have lots of experience in trying different burgers at different places, our food arrived fairly quickly, no complaint there but the taste of my burger was terrible at best, the meat was completely unseasoned and was so bland, I would say it’s probably the worst tasting burger I have ever had and I’ve had many others on our table had different meals like lasagna, loaded baguette and a chicken stack and they said their food was lovely so I’m giving a 3/5 as other food was fine and the service was very good, a real shame as the photos of the burgers on the menu look amazing but unfortunately don’t taste as mouthwatering as they look !!
