The sushi at this restaurant is absolutely delicious and the atmosphere is cozy.
This is my friend's favorite restaurant in Winnipeg, not only for their sushi, but also for the overall dining experience.
I came to this restaurant specifically to try their Osaka-style okonomiyaki ($9.99) because it is one of my favorite Japanese dishes. There are not many Japanese restaurants that offer this item.
My family used to love going to Asahi. We enjoyed the food and the friendly atmosphere. But now, the food is so-so and the service is just terrible. Friends had told us they had recently been, and it had gone downhill but we thought we'd check it out anyway. The waitress/hostess was on the phone most of the evening (maybe taking take-out orders, I don't know) but we felt quite ignored. When my husband ordered a new roll, he didn't like it and found it too spicy. He asked that they remove it and he would order something else. The waitress was quite shocked and took it away. Then she came back, and said she had to charge us for it anyway because "there was nothing wrong with it" and did we want to take it home. We didn't, of course, b/c we DIDN'T LIKE IT. So I said we just wouldn't come back again in the future and she couldn't have cared less. Silly to create bad will for a $7 roll when we spent $~120 but as I said she didn't care. We will go to Wasabi Sabi instead where there is consistently delicious food and friendly, helpful service.
