I'm not really a breakfast person, but my 3 mates that were there with me were not overly impressed, so it seems to be about average. I had French toast and sausagelinks. The French toast was OK, but I've definitely had better. The sausage was a little over cooked and honestly a littlecold. But the atmosphere is great and I still ate it all, so it wasn't too bad. I'd probably come back again and try somethingelse to form a solid opinion, but this visit pretty much met expectations.
We really enjoyed our first visit. The diner was very busy at 9 am on Sunday, so we sat at the bar. We visited with friendly diners who gave great recommendations! Chicken fried steak and hashbrowns with gravy were a fave, and we loved them too.
I'm a caregiver for a beautiful 86 year old woman who is a very picky eater. It is an imperative part of my responsibility to insure that she eats, even when she doesn't have neither the appetite or the energy to do so. One thing I can always count on is Ballard Cafe's delicious biscuits and gravy for breakfast or a chicken fried steak lunch plate to put a smile on her face and fill her belly. Every time I call in a to go order, no matter which incredible staff member who answers the call, knows my name and what my order is going to be. They even know that we need extra gravy. (Makes my heart smile, every time they ask. I want to thank each and everyone at Ballard St. Cafe, from the bottom of my heart, for helping me care for Ann Clifton! BTW...Ann's not alone in nearly licking the plate clean...I love the food too!
Before today, it had been years since I 've been to Ballard Street Cafe, and I always loved the food there. Today, however, the experience was nowhere near as good. I had the chicken fried steak, which was underseasoned bland. The pancakes were way too dense, as well as flavorless. My son 's breakfast tacos were super greasy, and he said his hash browns were bone dry . On a positive note, both my eggs (over easy) and my wife 's eggs (sunny side up) were great, and the bacon was perfect. Overall, the food was mediocre. Service was decent. We much prefer the food and service at Country Club Cafe so we may not return to Ballard Street Cafe.
Love this place. I haven't had a bad food item there. The onion rings and homemade pies and brownies are amazing.
