We opted for the banquet which was generous and delicious. The staff were very attentive and kept our glasses topped up. We loved British India and love Fish Head just as much. Great for group bookings.
Fish Head is a hidden gem that's nestled in the heart of Adelaide's Chinatown. This was my second visit to the restaurant and the food was absolutely delightful! I had the Otak Otak - an interesting take on a Malaysian classic - was given 2 generous portions of fish wrapped in pandanus leaves and steamed in a coconut curry. The accompanying watermelon and orange salad added a refreshing sweet balance to the dish. The lamb shanks was also cooked in a potato cauliflower coconut curry - the shanks were tender with the meat falling off the bone! The curry was too delicious to waste and I ordered a serve of Naan to dip in the sauce - a divine match made in heaven! The surprise of the night was the Nasi Lalapan - the Lemongrass Chicken was delicately flavoured, accompanied by deep fried anchovies and snake beans. I did however found the beans a bit on the crunchy side. If you enjoy Indian-Malay cuisine, Fish Head is certainly a must try! Be prepared to spend a little - their main dishes can cost between $20 to $30, but is worth every penny! Best approach would be to order several dishes and share them with family or friends!
Booked 2 weeks ahead after reading reviews. We were not disappointed the food is a great fusion. The beef cheeks in curry and the eggplant entre was spectacular Well worth the visit
As others have noted, the name is somewhat misleading. It's not a seafood restaurant, but rather an Asian fusion one.We had dinner there recently, and really enjoyed it. For entrees (from the Hawker menu) we had the pork belly and soft shell crab, which were both delicious. Mains were the beef cheeks (the stand out), the salmon (very good, but the accompanying salad had a slightly overpowering mint taste), and the Malaysian curry snapper fillet with the head (very good but more sauce than fish/vegetables). For dessert we shared a sticky rice, a great way to finish the meal. Just one small point, the garlic naan we had with the mains was somewhat doughy.Service was very helpful, and they were happy to accommodate my wife's gluten intolerance. Prices were not unreasonable. We look forward to our next visit.
Don't be deceived by the name, this is a really good Asian restaurant, not a fish cafe. If you choose foods from the Hawker menu, you get entree sized serves, which allows you to taste a wide variety of dishes. I tried the Eggplant Fritters,(excellent) the Bugs Tails ( good, nice sauce) and the Pork Belly (very good). E had the Squid as a main dish, this was a generous serve of tentacles with cashews and anchovies, slightly spoilt by being a little over-cooked.The Wine list is good and should cater for most tastes.Service was both friendly and prompt.
