Chaparro - Berlin

Great spot for a bite and a beer (or 2.) had the nopales (vegan) taco plate: 3 tacos of soft grilled nopales, carrots, wobbles and cilantro on delicious mais tortillas with hot salsa. washed off with a cool beer and one side of totopos with guac. the totopos and guac were all go back to try the vegan mol burrito before I get rid of berlin!

Normally I don't eat very often Mexican foods because I don't find many vegan options in Mexican restaurants. this place is in a cool area in Kreuzberg and I discovered it when I was at the vegan tour berlin and that was one of the places where we shared something and I was really surprised on postive wise! almost all their dishes can be offered vegan style. the offer tacos with 3 different vegan fillings and on this day hey had even a special filling with sweet potato. and I ate for the first time in my life tacos with nopales (spicky grilled cactus the other filling was soy based (good) and sweet. I also had a sweet drink with hibiscus. it looks pretty cool in this little Mexican food. I command.

This place had one pretty average review when I went so I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was freshly made and had a home-made feel. The staff were super friendly and there were three choices of vegan filling for tacos, nachos, sandwiches or burritos. They also had a choice of salsas to spice up your meal. I'd recommend going in the summer and sitting outside. It's quite small on the inside though.

I ordered the vegan chorizo burrito and was pleasantly surprised by the size. it was very full and good.

I feel like for decades Mexican food in Germany a very German version of this ethnic food. or with other words, not very authentic. Luckily this has changed in recent years, and chaparro could be very well one of the best places for taste (more) authentic Mexican food in berlin. the fact that they have vegan options is, of course, even better. it says all their dishes can be veganized, but I never asked about their queensadillas. they have definitiw different vegan fillings for burritos or tacos. on Wednesday they also have two taco specialties for €1, one of them always vegan. Moreover, they also have delicious homemade salsas (habanero and carry a few mezcals. a long time ago they also made a whole vegan week, maybe they repeat that one day.
