Rey's - Cary

A dinner at Rey’s is always special. We ate early 5:30pm per my 93yr old father preference. The food was delicious as well as the atmosphere and service. We so enjoy Rey’s in our opinion the best restaurant in the area

Without getting into the particulars of our (first) experience at Rey 's because those matters were resolved to our satisfaction. However, I will provide a review of the food and drinks. I had the Cosmonaut (a version of a Cosmopolitan), it was good. For our entrees, we ordered the 16oz ribeye medium well, Grouper, asparagus, and mashed potatoes. One member of my party was satisfied with the steak, however, did note it was chewy and definitely not medium well (more well down as there was no pink in the middle). The steak was seasoned but agreed that it was chewy, perhaps evidence of a lesser quality cut of steak definitely NOT a $51 steak. I was between the Grouper and lamb chops and decided to give the Grouper a try. First, nothing about this dish resembles New Orleans cuisine or taste. The Grouper lacked any flavor and sat upon a pool of melted butter (hmph) and was topped with crab meat. This was perhaps the worst part of the dish. The crab meat tasted like it was straight from a can, more like minced fish, again with no seasoning, like none. While I was assured nothing in our kitchen comes out of a can , I couldn 't finish it, it was terrible. I was really looking forward to having an awesome experience here and sacrificing hundreds of dollars I knew we 'd spend. Unfortunately, not worth the hype. We will not be going back.

I took my granddaughter who turned 13 the day before on a grandfather granddaughter date as a teenager. They could not have been more pleasant and helpful and and bananas foster is now her new favorite dessert.
