Anyway ordered samosas for entree, glad to see they were proper indian samosas nice pastry and very tasty filling. For mains we ordered a potato curry which was very nice, a beef madras? now we were asked what heat level, we went for medium? it was the weirdest madras I have ever eaten, really mild and just a strong coconut taste? the meat was nice. The pulao rice was good and the nan bread also good. Service very good. Total cost $52 which I think was very reasonable. We would go back but would not order the beef madras.
We have visited Sain Café last year and enjoyed it then. This time we were welcomed back by a big smile and a very nice meal. The ambience of the café leaves a little to be desired and parking can be tricky - but prices are reasonable and the staff are eager to please. Very happy to come back again.
Giving Saino Cafe a bad review is like shooting Bambi, but I must be honest and say Nepali food is one of my least favorite cuisines. It's not that Saino's food is unpalatable, it's just that it's bland -- like Indian food without the spice. I did go away satisfied and the price is quite modest. The waitstaff are very helpful and served our dishes promptly, which is a good performance, considering we were a party of eight. I don't presume to think that Saino's regulars, of whom there are quite a number, will agree with me, but that's life.
I totally agree with other reviewers who were surprised by the quality of the food at Saino and lack of customers. We wer there o a Friday evening and once a party of eight left soon after we arrived there was only one other couple. We had a curry, rice and naan, plenty for the two of us and enough left for lunch the next day. The curry was very flavoursome and cooked to your heat requirements. We will be back with friends and hope that more people try this restaurant. Good food, good price - only thing lacking is atmosphere due to lack of customers. Give it a go.
Based on the recommendation of others we decided to give Saino a try. Located on at the Henley Street traffic lights on Canning Highway near the Canning Bridge, it's one of those places you often drive by and never think of visiting, which is a shame. Being right on the highway, you'll have to park a few minutes away at the car park on Henley Street. Up until recently I've thought this was an Italian restaurant but it's actually a Nepalese/Indian restaurant. The decor is relatively plain, apart from the prayer flags festooning the chandelier (from the restaurant's previous incantation), the numerous paper butterflies and smattering of photos of Nepal. The menu is extensive but hard to decipher, the food however is freshly made with love. A husband and wife time run this establishment and you can tell they have put everything they have into making it as successful as they possibly can. Unfortunately not many people know it exists (me included until recently), which is why it is so quiet on a Friday night. The owner explains that because they predominantly serve Indian dishes and they make them fresh they can cook them according to your chilli threshold. So if you like them spicy hot, like me, they can satisfy your tastebuds but if you're a novice to Indian cuisine they can tone the same dish down as well. After trying the two other Nepalese restaurants in the area I'd have to say the flavours here are a lot better just a shame that more people don't know it.
