The dish did not reflect proper paella. The dish was served in a bowl with the proteins (mussels, chicken and sausage) surrounding a scoop of what was supposed to be saffron rice. The proteins were dry, the chicken leg and thigh still had the bone in and did not look like they were cooked together with rice. The rice was not fluffy but soupy with peas and strips of red peppers. I did not see any saffron in the rice and the dish did not have the distinct yellow hue or accompanying aroma. At $48 per plate I expected more than Zatarain's boxed jambalaya mix. The desserts were very good as was the service.
We started with the octopus and beet salad and a lovely bottle of Merlot. For entrees: the duck and steak were so, so good! There was a gnocchi special which was not up to Kennebec par.Our waitress took it back and took it off the bill. She was amazing. We shared the flourless, chocolate cake (with a birthday ?️ .
As Durango locals with a longstanding connection to the area, my wife and I chose Kennebec Cafe to celebrate my birthday this past Wednesday. Unfortunately, our experience left much to be desired. We were seated in a secluded hallway devoid of any windows or ambiance, while another couple arriving after us was promptly seated by the window. This seating arrangement felt not only uninviting but downright unacceptable. Our server, Danielle, seemed preoccupied with her other tables, neglecting us in our very isolated, walled-in corner. When making the reservation, Barbara, recommended reminding the staff of my birthday to receive a complimentary glass of champagne and a slice of cake. Despite mentioning my birthday when asked if it was a special occasion when seated, we received no acknowledgment from Danielle. This oversight led to us purchasing our own slice of cheesecake and waiting an additional 20 minutes for our check. The blatant disregard for our special occasion, coupled with the evident favoritism in seating for other couples, was disheartening. Such treatment felt like a form of ageism and segregation, qualities one wouldn't expect from a reputable establishment in Colorado. I cannot recommend Kennebec Cafe to anyone seeking a memorable birthday experience. Regrettably, the host and wait staff succeeded in ruining mine.
This place never disappoints! We live right down the road from here and go often. It ALWAYS delivers on food, service, and atmosphere.Make sure to make a reservation.
Food was great and reasonable priced. Fresh ingredients and great presentation. Ryan was Amazing. He was not our server but he should have been. He anticipated our needs and was friendly and kind.
