We tried the pea soup, which contained cream, the butternut and bean salad with feta cheese, the mushroom pasta with cream sauce and cheese, and the mushroom stew with creamy mashed potatoes (despite being labeled as non-dairy). As a vegan for nearly a decade, I could feel the difference in the food. The pea soup, which turned out to have peanut butter, made me sick after finishing it. I informed the staff of the issue, and they seemed aware of the dairy products in the dishes. I hope they will remove the vegan labels from their menu. I would not recommend this place for vegans.
This restaurant is beautifully decorated and cozy. The interior features wallpaper made from old book pages and a large cabinet filled with antiques. It is the only restaurant in Maboneng that clearly labels vegan options on their menu. We enjoyed the curry and bourguignon with mashed potatoes, which were delicious and satisfying. However, the curry could have been presented a bit better with some poppadums or chutney on the side. The staff is very friendly and attentive.
Although they are clear some dishes on the menu as vegan, most of them are not vegan. we had the soup soup that had much looked in it, the butternut and the bonsalat, the feta cheese, the mushroom paste that had a heavy cream sauce and cheese, and the mushroom stew with heavy and creamy kartoffels (which marked them clearly as non-dairy) I have been vegan for almost 10 years and I can feel the difference. because the soup soup has much peanut butter in it, I was not sure in the beginning and ate everything. it really made mine like sick. in any case they recommend this place not for vegans. I told the personal, they seemed to be aware of the fact that they are milk products in the food. hopefully they will remove the vegan label in the menu.
Beautiful and cozy restaurant. the interieur is amazing with wallpapers from old book pages and a large cabinet filled with antiques. it is the only restaurant that we could find that vegan options are marked on their menu on maboneng. we had the curry and bouruignon with potato maid. it was very delicious and filled. even though the curry could be a bit nicer with some poppadums or chutney on the side. the staff, if really friendly and helpful.
While some dishes on the menu are labeled as vegan, the majority of them are not actually vegan. My dining experience included a pea soup with a heavy cream base, a butternut and bean salad with feta cheese, a mushroom paste with cream sauce and cheese, and a mushroom stew with creamy potatoes (clearly not dairy-free). As a vegan for nearly a decade, I could definitely taste the difference. The pea soup, which contained a lot of peanut butter, caught me off guard and I ended up eating everything. Unfortunately, it made me feel unwell afterwards. I do not recommend this restaurant for fellow vegans. I informed the staff about their use of dairy products in supposedly vegan dishes and urged them to remove the vegan labels from the menu.
