The service was good and the lady doing most of the cooking friendly and chatty, we wi stop on our morning cycle ride here again.
A sunny Sunday in November & we were in St Georges de Didonne looking to eat & came across la Cabane. Its very close to the main square, not a large frontage & perhaps would be easily overlooked in the bustling Summer. The owners speak French, Spanish & English (sufficient English anyway). Service was excellent, though admittedly there weren't too many customers in. We went for a 10 Euro Tapas plate which we shared followed by a 10 piece Tapas set menu. Next time we'll miss out the first or reduce the second. Great food - but very filling. Without us prompting, the waitress asked if we wanted the cold meats which my wife had left, parcelling up into a doggy bag - which we took her up on - & I noticed she did the same for another couple who were having Paella. Its not a massive place but is set out well, & its definitely worth eating here. We don't get to St Georges too often - but will revisit this place.
We stopped here Saturday lunchtime and thoroughly enjoyed it! My husband had the mussels in cream sauce. This was served with either chips or salad. He chose salad, but due to a slight misunderstanding he ended up with both! The portion of mussels was very generous, as was the salad (lettuce and vinaigrette). The chips were good too. My daughter and myself choose the 10 euro tapas plate. It was nicely presented with a variety of tapas. It was the perfect amount for my daughter - I could have eaten more though, so I helped myself to the chips! The service was excellent....very pleasant waitress, and the owner (I'm assuming here) was ready with some banter. Have to understand French to appreciate this I think.
We are frequent visitors to St Georges de Didonne as we have a house here. We always eat here at least once and enjoy it every time. We find Bernard and Bianca to be wonderful hosts and Bianca's paella is to die for! (ask for the spicy version if you like a bit of a warmer dish). I would always book a table, especially in the summer when you need to be on time otherwise the table will go as there is always a big demand.
We discovered this little gem last summer and were back for more this summer. Menu is varied both to budget and taste. Food is fresh and plentiful. Service is attentive, fun and friendly and the chef cares about your experience. We ate here as a family of 4 ranging 11 to 40's plus a group of friends and never had a bad meal, lunch or dinner. It was our children's favourite and no pizza or burger in sight!
