I give credit to new businesses with possible growing pains, but any new establishment must not cut easy corners. La Katrina is cutting corners where it matters. I do hope, given their smallish town location, that they flourish, hence my two star review, when our dining experience was much more of a one. Upon walking in, the entry had a covering of slippery slush at the doorway. Entry, not parking lot. Just the entry. It is so easy to just shovel that away before opening (it was two concrete sidewalk sections ...when we left, there was a black rubber mat on half of the slushy walk. The other half had only become more slippery. Definitely not safe for any compromised walkers, which grinds my gears. Why not just shovel it? Not sure at all why they would ignore this. I don 't live in WI, so I do not know when it last snowed, but it was not that day. The snow happened at least before the day we dined in. We, a party of four, walked in, and the restaurant was very cold. I never took my jacket off, and I never warmed up either. It was not just chilly...it was COLD. I need to first state that the server was as kind and polite as can be...I suspect he was new, due to rookie mistakes, including not dividing the check as we 'd asked (asked for each couple (four people total to be separate, and we ended up with three checks . Anyway, everybody is new at some point. As far as the rest of the missteps, I feel he was set up to fail due to whatever the kitchen dynamics are/were. We ordered drinks to start. Two of us had beer, which was fine. My friend had the last Diet Pepsi (our server told her it was the only one... , and it was outdated and flat. I had a margarita, and it was most certainly not a handmade libation. They seemingly used a mix, as it was relatively tasteless, and I questioned if there was any tequila in there at all. To their credit, they do not say the drinks are authentic, so my bad. But one would assume that at an $8 price point in Abbotsford, Wisconsin, they would be authentic...though they were on special for $5 when we were there. Eventually, meals started to come out. They were not evenly served...stuff happens, but we were the only four diners in there. There were two people at the bar, but we were the only table in the expansive dining area. There were four of us, and our friends were served room-temp meals on cold plates. They were not impressed by the presentation or the taste. The most ridiculous thing was the California Burrito with a side of fries. Side of fries was LITERALLY six fries. I am not exaggerating...it was literally SIX fries of varied lengths. Technically, five fries and two hard, crispy ends, which I 'm counting as one. How is that even a thing? Once meals were served one-by-one, my fajita meal finally arrived, ten minutes after the three other meals arrived. This was a staggered start, for sure. Stuff happens, but with nobody else dining in, and seemingly no takeout orders going out, this wasn 't cool in my book. As typical for a fajita order, I had a little plate with beans and rice and a skillet of meats and veggies. I had to ask for tortillas, much to my server 's confusion. He did not understand why I wanted tortillas for my fajitas. I never did get an actual plate to use, so I ate over the barely warm skillet of meat and veggies. Perhaps they are just working out the kinks, but there was so much to be disappointed about here. I must admit, though, that my fajitas, while not great, were good and relatively generous in size. My husband also liked his entrée. I felt terrible that my friends ' meals were so unsatisfactory, as they had come from two hours away just to have dinner with us, as we were in Abbotsford from Chicago. So they did all that driving just to see us, making me feel awful that the dining experience was what it was, as I had been the one to suggest La Katrina.
Nothing good to say. Place was very cold. Beer selection almost zero. Margarita was flavorless. Food was brought out to 4 of us all at different times...last person being served 10 minutes after first person was served...definitely not due to being slammed in the kitchen as we were the only 4 in the place. Food was put onto cold plates resulting in a cold meal in minutes. Food was not good luke warm, much less when it was cold. Our mistake to go here on Thanksgiving? If so place should have never been open for business.
We met friends out for Thanksgiving. As soon as we walked in the door, we should have walked out. The place was freezing cold and didn't get any warmed. Beer selection was nonexistent, margarita was flavorless and we questioned if there was even tequila in it, and I had the last diet Pepsi which was WAY past its expiration and tasted like a tin can. There were 4 of us and we were the only 4 in the restaurant. From the time the first dinner was served to the last was 10 mins. Food was served on ice cold plates and was barely warm when it got to us. The food was disgusting and we are just praying we don't get food poisoning.
