This little restaurant is a Mennonite Central Committee enterprise, proceeds going towards the MCC's development and relief work, and is housed in the MCC Centre which includes a Ten Thousand Villages fair trade store, quilting workshop, and probably the largest thrift shop in B.C., all of which fund raise for the MCC's work.We came in for a mid-afternoon snack, having skipped lunch, and settled for soup. I had the always-available borscht while my wife chose the daily special bacon and potato soup. Everything on the menu is said to be "home made" and that it certainly was. The borscht was primarily with an onion base with chunks of beets. Tasty but not what one expects but still very good. The bacon and potato soup was also very good. Both were accompanied by a large, tasty soda bun with a pat of butter. We didn't try any of the pastries but from what we saw, they seemed very good and genuinely "home-made" given how they were finished.
Lots of bright light, good food, comfortable atmosphere! The best part is, it is attached to the MCC Thrift Store... so you can shop for deals later!
If you want the real deal, this is it: cottage cheese perogies, farmer sausage, cream gravy, onions, even fresh dill... tastes just like Mom used to make. We always leave satisfied. The staff are friendly, service is great, and prices are reasonable. The restaurant closes at 4.
Tastiest food from a bowl of soup and biscuit to a full course meal that would meet anyone's expectations
