Surprising amount of vegan and veggie options for a place that is quite grill/ seafood centric. Most of the options are Asian fusion dishes; a Thai- spiced lentil burger, vegan katsu curry, Thai crispy pancakes. A good place to book in if you’re looking for somewhere to please a wide variety of preferences (meat eaters/ seafood lovers/ vegans/ simple or mainstream dishes, etc. .
We arrived at 4:15 and our waitress took our drink order at 4:25. We placed our food order at 4:30, but we didn't see our waitress again until 5:30. We expressed our frustration about the long wait, but no explanation was given. The manager came over and I mentioned that no one had checked on us for more drinks, but again, no explanation was provided. Our food arrived an hour after ordering and while it was alright, it wasn't worth the wait. When we received the bill, there was still no explanation for the delay. When we didn't leave a tip, it was clear that our waitress wasn't happy. We won't be returning to this restaurant.
The food at this restaurant was excellent as usual. However, the service from the front of house staff was disappointing from the beginning. We were not escorted to our table as promised and had to locate it ourselves based on the location of the menus. Despite asking for an additional Sunday roast menu for our party of 4, we were only given one. The service was slow and we noticed many staff members standing around the front service desk chatting instead of attending to customers. Overall, our Christmas Eve meal was a major disappointment due to the lack of efficient service.
Had a lunch in the restaurant, served by young guy (it said Mika on the receipt so not sure if that’s his name), but he was very pleasant and just what you would expect a waiter to be. So 5 stars to him and hopefully this will be recognised by management. Starters: scallops with black pudding on pea puree was delicious. The mushroom chestnut pate with port and Stilton toasts were also divine but sadly the pate to toast ratio was off. It would have been ideal with another 3 toasts as they are very small and the pate needs to be eaten on it as it’s extremely rich. Mains: prosciutto wrapped monkfish was very good however the mash it came with was majorly over salted and inedible. The chorizo bean cassoulet paired lovely with the monkfish, but only small two pieces, an extra piece would have made for a better meal. The ribeye steak was cooked perfectly and the garlic butter is not for the faint hearted! The seating is very comfortable but the tables are quite close to each other, so if you are seated beside someone who likes to talk loudly and incessantly even with a mouthful as we were, then you might not want to stay too long and to that end we left earlier than we had liked to enjoy a coffee elsewhere. All in all a nice meal, coming in at £83 for 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 dessert wines. It’s a nice atmosphere if you’re 50+ as looking around at all the tables we were by far the youngest in the room. We Would return in future (but not hurriedly) and try something different from the menu.
