I have been visiting the penrallt for 30 years. The refurbishment is superb. The staff are attentive. Views are fabulous . All in all couldn't be improved upon. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5
Gorgeous location, outstanding views and beautiful rooms. Sea views from the grounds and just absolutely stunning. Building is lovely, lots of original features, tastefully decorated and grand. Mainly very clean throughout but, found the light switch to the bathroom to be a little grim. Some of the light switches did not work and one of the internal doors slammed with a bang. Majority of the staff were very friendly and polite, one member (in management) was a little arrogant, snobby and we felt that they had turned their nose up at us a little, this attitude dissipated when we were a little better dressed but, we're not going to travel to the beach in top hat and tails in a heatwave. I'm a firm believer in treating everyone the same, especially when a paying guest. If I could rate the hotel and restaurant separately this would be a 5 star rating. Unfortunately the menu was incredibly limited and there were multiple instances where they had run out of food and whilst the staff were very friendly and polite, it was difficult to place an order and the time to be served and recieve food was lengthy. We dined early enough but, it took 1 hour and 30 mins to have our order taken after sitting down and being provided with menus, with people ordering after us being served their food beforehand. The table next to us (which had sat down later) were made aware that there was only one dish remaining for the starters and were told this might sell but, then told them they would reserve it for them. As the menu was so limited it was the only thing that appealed to us both, so we had to have a main and desert. The main was lovely but, took another 40mins to arrive, quite salty but, tasty and well cooked. The desert was really, really good. Sadly they also ran out of deserts that had been ordered by the table next to us. Breakfast was okay, again took a long time to get to us, streaky bacon isn't the best, sausages were okay but, I'd describe it as average, they'd also run out of potatoes (arrived early) and didn't provide anything additional for the main breakfast, no toast came with the meal, as you had to get up and make it yourself, as the timing was so sporadic and was typically lengthy it was difficult to judge when to actually make your toast, so it would be better if it came with the breakfast or if this was offered as an option. Would also be nice to have pots for tea available and tea other than the Welsh brand, like breakfast tea. The eggs royale was faultless and the sandwiches are very good but a little bare on fillings. I would love to stay again but, I wouldn't eat dinner here and instead would prefer to eat somewhere else. For the type of hotel this is I would expect a far better dining experience. Alcohol menu is also limited, good wines, a few beers, spirits but, poor choice of cider. Wifi didn't work in the room.
Simply fantastic, the views towards Aberporth beach is just spectacular. Peaceful location, good cooked breakfast. Nice and friendly staff and management. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5
