Contribuisci feedbackThis is absolutely a hidden gem. You can expect the same quality at Farm Food that you would expect in all the big foodie(I hate that description but lack a better word) cities. Except that it is half or less the price so definitely worth the drive out into the country. Jim the owner and chef has a gift with knowing how to purchase quality food, cooking it interesting ways with beautifully plated presentations. He supports the local farmers and ranchers by buying local. His wine selection has great wines from local wineries in the area. We were six people. Our order consisted of the fish and olive starters. Our main courses were, the pork and beans, which is a sophisticated version with a generous sized pork filet cooked to perfection and white beans. The fried chicken, the specials of the night which were the tri-tip and the rock cod and a dinner salad made as a special order with the fried chicken. All were very much worth ordering again. The menu has just enough choices but isn't overwhelming. This is a great example of how less is better. I have eaten in many of the worlds best restaurants and this compares equally minus the huge bill at the end or the pretentious waiters and patrons. We will eat here every time we are even remotely in the area.
Great food but staff needs to lighten up and not be uptight and too proud. Some awkward moments have been reported by friends. Never go in with four or more people.
So, here 's something interesting: If you look at the social media FB reviews for this place, it gets 4.7 stars. Well, I posted the below review as two stars and it was conveniently hidden (as I suspect others were as well). The owner 's response to my review was, Boy, aren 't you full of it. I was going to hold off on posting to Yelp, but I guess that 's what I 'll have to do. Here goes: Unfortunately, this is not Farm Food. You would think a restaurant with this name in an area with rich agriculture would have locally sourced, quality ingredients. Unfortunately, it did not. The word that kept running through my mind was lazy. Here 's why: I ordered the lemon sage pan-fried chicken, which was actually three chicken tenders breaded in panko and over-salted. My wife ordered the custom cut lamb chops. They were good but nearly overlooked, and I recognized them as being straight from the Costco meat department (pretty good, but still not farm food). Both dishes were served with a combination of broccoli and cauliflower florets with sliced carrots which, again, were obviously straight from a food service company, and diced potatoes in a cream sauce with raw red bell pepper and raw sliced green onion. All in all, these dishes reminded me of those which would be turned out in mass quantity at a mediocre banquet, which is odd considering they have what appears to be a VERY strict policy of no parties over four and they don 't take reservations. As far as atmosphere, they certainly tried, but fell short by using fake ficus trees, neon open signs, and paper napkins. Also, and this might be nitpicky, but it feels weird signing a check for a $72 dinner for two on the server 's cell phone Square app. The bottom line: This restaurant is located in a locavore 's paradise, and they actually named it Farm Food, which would lead a person to believe that they would find a creative menu of locally sourced and freshly prepared ingredients. Instead, they have offered a bait switch which lures the customer in with the name and appearance and then serves up three-star banquet food at best. Try a little harder, Chef, and you could have something worthwhile.
With a name like Farm Food we were expecting the meat and produce to be sourced from the farms surrounding this rural community. As locals, we were shocked to learn (from the owner directly) that this is not the case, nor was it on the horizon. It 's all Cash &Carry/Costco. On top of that, the owner was a real nightmare. Hovering, making unpleasant small talk in the form of pompous decrees about why the menu is so limited and this and that. We have also heard a number of accounts from other locals about how the owner harasses the employees of the neighboring mini-mart. Shameful. And to think we were so excited for a restaurant in Adair!
I travel extensively across the Pacific Northwest for work and often dine at upscale restaurants. I prioritize farm-fresh produce and meats that are sourced locally whenever possible. Without a doubt, this is the best restaurant I've ever visited. The chef is outstanding, and the seasonal dishes he creates are incredible. The prices are surprisingly low given the quality and portion sizes. I can't wait for my next opportunity to eat here again!
