Le Skanapia - Aime

I was in Montalbert for 2 weeks and I tried a few restaurants around, but Skanapia was undoubtedly the best in the place. Everything about the restaurant is just perfect. The owners, waiters and also the Chefs there treats you like family and the food is just tooo good to be true. Try a meal there and you'll forget everything else for sure :

Always eat here, very friendly hosts. Superb food, including regional cuisine. Highly recommend for an evening meal with friends or family.

I’m really not sure where to start with this review. After arriving for an evening meal with a group of six of us were greeted by loud distorted music and bright lights and an ambience not totally unlike the bus station waiting room as opposed to an Alpine village restaurant. Whilst you may be saying well perhaps you should’ve walked out, I had booked and we were hungry. Ordering was chaotic and the confused host unable to maintain his attention on taking order beyond one drink per person before being distracted by phone calls and who knows what. Once we got going with the food order he was unable to give us any advice on which fondue would be appropriate for a total of six. When the fondue arrived my daughter bit into a piece of bread which she instantly spat out as it tasted strange. She noticed immediately that it was covered in mould. The other pieces of bread were inspected and we found that they were two were covered in mould. When I queried this with the host I got a gallic shrug and I have been working here for 13 years and with fondue you don’t get fresh bread. Now again I should’ve perhaps at this that point said we will pay for the drinks and left. I’m not sure why didn’t. Perhaps I just didn 't want any confrontation in front of the kids. We found some edible pieces of bread amongst all the pieces and dug away through what can be only described a very average not very cheesy cheese fondue. The rest of the evening was filled with Basil Fawltyesque comedy as the host bounced around the room proceeding to return continuously dirty cutlery as other guests came in. We will return to Montalbert. Just not Skankypia.
