We had a lovely dinner outside. I am a fan of couscous and I have nothing but happy thoughts of the couscous royal. I overdid it on the harissa - careful because it is a hot one! My husband went for the pizza and gave it glowing reviews. Our companion ordered fish and it was also nicely presented and according to him, quite delicious. Prices were reasonable (around $20 for a main) for dinner.
I try to search up any restaurant on TA before stopping to eat there but this was an unplanned stop and we decided to check it out since we saw many locals eating there. Glad we tried! The servers were very nice and helpful. I had duck breast and it was delicious. My husband had prawns; they were also great. Our kids ordered two different pizza pies and both were fantastic. The portion size was perfect, not too little and not too much where you are forced to overeat since the food is so delicious and you just can't stop. Really glad we stopped by to eat here!
My fiancé and I had such a great experience at Dar Malek. Our waiter was extremely kind to us and made us feel right at home. He was perfectly comfortable switching back and forth between French and English when necessary. We both ordered an 18 euro prix fixe meal with salad, a huge tagine dish that came with couscous, and a dessert. 18 euros for 3 generous courses is about the best you could hope for in this part of France. The salad was healthy and refreshing. The main dish (chicken tagine with dried fruits and olives) came out sizzling in a clay tagine pot. The flavors were wonderful, especially the combination of dried fruits with meat! My one disappointment is that I had hoped it would be spicy. However, the flavors are perfect to accommodate both adventurous eaters and picky eaters. We were both so thrilled with our food, and the large portions were what we needed after a long day of walking. For dessert, we had something called mouhalabieh, which I can only describe as a pistachio flan served over a sponge cake that was soaked in honey. It was one of the most unique and refreshing desserts I've ever had! I highly recommend trying it! We were so happy with our food that we told a couple on the street to sit down for dinner at the restaurant. When they sat down, our waiter was really thankful and gave us two espressos on the house! We thought that was such a nice touch. P.S If you are having trouble finding the restaurant, the awning over it says Couscous in very big letters.
Very disappointing! Slow and ineffective, the food was deceiving, very expensive with extremely small portions, cold and unsavory. We waited over an hour between the moment of arrival and the main course then another hour between the starters and the main course…In addition the atmosphere is agitated and the waiters are too few to even look at you and take orders! The owner of the restaurant is behind the bar and doesn't bother with organization or taking care of his customers. There are so many excellent restaurants in Aix en Provence that it's a pity such a place even exists and can ruin an evening.
There are so many good restaurants in Aix ( and a few dodgy ones) however this place really stands out. The decor is great and the service is superb - really kind, friendly and attentive, but without being bothersome. We had a great shared starter that they made specially for us as we don't eat meat. Filo parcels of goats cheese and vegetables with delicious relish and a great salad. It was meant for one and filled both of us up (and I am a big eater.) The vegetable couscous main course was also excellent. I have been taken by a Tunisian business contact to what he described as 'the best restaurant in Sidi Bou Said' and my girlfriend has eaten all over Morocco - and this food was easily up to the best we had experienced there. Prices are very fair too. Highly recommended!
