After such an unpromising start I began to wonder if we has made a mistake but we kept faith in the recommendation of the friend who suggested we give Eis a shot and we pressed on…<br/ <br/ We ordered the sushi and sashimi combination plate, tatsuta age and grilled half eggplant. Thankfully everything was delicious! The sushi and sashimi were excellent (some of the best sashimi I have had), the tatsuta age was great and the miso baked half eggplant was also really good. <br/ <br/ I’d go back but needless to say I’d skip the edamame and beer – we had a nice dry sake that didn’t seem to be on the menu so I would suggest asking for a sake recommendation that suits your taste – the staff were very helpful.
Are you looking for great quality Sushi that just melts in your mouth and has a unique flavour? If so, then Eis is the place for you. Having been awhile since Emily and I have had good sushi, we decided to visit this pocket of a restaurant located in the heart of South Melbourne.<br/ <br/ With a very intimate ambience offering a relaxed fine dining vibe, you will feel immediately welcome and at ease. The attendant we had was a woman from Japan who was nothing short of exemplary in service. Always topping up our waters, ensuring we were enjoying our meal, to even leading us out by holding the door and bringing the card machine to us upon payment- she is the embodiment of what is so crux in Japan and we loved her and the restaurant that much more.<br/ <br/ Now let's get to the sushi. Gyozas, 4 pieces of special seared salmon with ocean salt(? , The salmon avocado and of course Salmon Sashimi on its own (upon request . The Gyozas were a surprise considering as they were fried as pictured but were tasty nonetheless. We loved how it was so crunchy on the outside but was still so soft within, with the meats oozing with flavour. The salmon avocado was creamy with sauce, and literally melted in your mouth. The salmon sashimi was succulent and juicy, tasting fresh and marbled- a fattier variety and taste than others symbolising greater value and taste (for me anyway . Finally the seared salmon is to die for. Similar to the ippudo seared salmon, this was just too good. What was surprising was how well it went with the chosen salt, and how it all melted in your mouth for a flavourful of goodness.<br/ <br/ We highly recommend this restaurant for great quality Sushi and sashimi. A true Japanese Experience in every single way!<br/ <br/ Food: 4/5<br/ Service: 5/5<br/ Ambience: 4/5<br/ Value: 3.5/5<br/ <br/ Overall: 4/5
The service is wonderful and the food is consistently delicious- great, traditional Japanese food They are very happy to do take away. Our favourite dishes are the tatsuka age chicken, salmon rolls (sushi is amazing) and the gyoza. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
