It is surprising then to find a semi outside area - great for the summer and and interior decorated with old vinyl records and having a distinctly retro feel. The service is extremely pleasant and quick, the friendly atmosphere permeates the whole area, there is music playing but not too loud. The tables are set well the areas are clean and without too much clutter. The menu changes each week, so there is always something to look forward to! Our meat was good but the main meat of the meal was undercooked for our tastes. The rest of the meal, the starter and pudding we great. The vegetables and sauces were very tasty and completely surprising - we were not expecting such a level of expertise by the Chef! It was a good meal served well in a friendly and convivial atmosphere. A surprising and lovely experience.
Don't normally review restaurants, but felt I had to on this occasion.Had lunch there today & all 3 courses were excellent. Goats Cheese ravioli was incredible, the roasted pork main was cooked so well it fell apart & the accompaniments were just as good. For desert we had a plate of 5 or 6 mini deserts - all beautifully presented and tasted great. My husband's choices were just as good - fois gras then fish. It's under new ownership since 2014 & would highly recommend it for a lovely meal out. All the food is home-made - nothing frozen (and you can tell!) Not too expensive either, they have a 15£ menu or it's 7£ for a starter, 15£ for a main which i really think is excellent given the quality.Really pleased we found this place - we'll be back! Merci beaucoup a MMe Mercier et vos chefs! :-)
Very good personal restaurant not very friendly
My wife and I needed to spend a January Monday night in Alençon in advance we checked tripadvisor and selected Le Hangar. When we arrived at 8.00pm we were warmly welcomed apparently one of the few online bookings. We appeared to be the only diners but were soon joined by a number of others.I had mushrooms stuffed with snails followed by a generous serving of kidneys in a creamy sauce with mashed potatoes. My wife had a calamari cassoulet followed by chicken. We drank a bottle of Rasteau which at mid €20 price was at the upper price end of the wine. We both enjoyed our meals again and would happily eat again at this modestly priced restaurant, we paid €60.
Found this by chance and it's a gem. Lovely ambience and busy both with tourists and locals. Great food, sensible prices and friendly service. Suggest booking if you go with a large group.
