Shaker Pond Ice Cream - Alfred

This is the best ice cream I've ever had! It was delicious and the staff were wonderful. The portions were just the right size and the prices were very reasonable.

The ice cream is delicious and a favorite among the locals. The service is quick, even when there is a long line. The staff is friendly and polite.

The staff at this restaurant is excellent and the shop is extremely clean and organized. I had a very enjoyable Sunday evening here.

My kids and I have been to Shaker Pond many times, it has always been a great experience. That is until today. Today I was completely disgusted not only by the behavior of the employees but also the manager, Pat. My son has a visual impairment that is obvious to other people because it causes his eyes to move. He went to the counter to ask a question and as he was walking away, the employee turned her coworker and made an insensitive comment about his eyes. Before we left, I asked for contact info for the owner and manager. The employee who’d made fun of my son came to the register, I explained my son’s condition and let her know how rude and insensitive her behavior had been. She said she didn’t mean to be rude, that she just didn’t understand. My response to her was that she should have said nothing at all. I called the manager from my car. She’d already spoken to the employee and had clearly already made up her mind about what happened even though the story she was told by the employee was a lie. Pat went on to say the employee was a “sweet girl having a rough week” and that because my son is disabled “it’s just going to be that way for him sometimes.” Rather than training her employees to be tolerant and inclusive she instead believes the appropriate approach is to encourage them to be more discreet when making insensitive comments about customers. If this is the culture of Shaker Pond, my family and I won’t ever be back.

My son was ridiculed by an employee for being disabled. The manager’s response was “well it’s just going to be like that for him sometimes.” I am absolutely disgusted and we will never be back.
