First time....great service.... different food....good food. Owners come around and greet too. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $20–30 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Recommended dishes: Raisin Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding
4 meals ordered. One of them, the trout (from the regular menu--not a weekly special), we were told was not available; two hours after the restaurant opened for the night. The chicken breast on a second order had to be sent back because it was raw, and the shrimp that was supposed to be a part of the dish was forgotten and was brought to the table on a separate plate. Third dish, Poblano pepper with salmon was mostly tasteless, with too much sauce and overcooked salmon. Dish 4, the half chicken, was greasy, and the fried potatoes were too salty. The bill came to $176.00, which is about $100 more than it was worth. No compensation for the raw chicken at all (that should have been taken off the bill). Slow service for such a small place. We will not be going back. All that the owner had to say about our meal was that Not everyone likes our type of food .
This was our first time having dinner at the Black Bear. It was a recommendation from a friend of ours. Food was very good. Service was attentive and the servers recommendations were spot on! Trout and Duck were awesome. Very small and intimate. Chef knows his stuff. Too top off dinner we had two desserts. The flowerbeds chocolate cake may have been the best we have ever had! Key lime was a solid second. Nice hidden gem in downtown Algonquin! We will be back!
Went here for a bday and the service and food were amazing!!! I would highly recommend. The drinks were inventive, adventurous and so tasty. The filet was complimented w a tamarind glaze that was to die for. Everything was perfect and so close to our general area. A gem within the suburbs that I can’t rave enough about. Def check this place out.
