Scafell - Allerdale

What a fantastic discovery! My partner and I enjoyed a wonderful meal here last night after finding ourselves in Rosthwaite without a reservation. We were welcomed by incredibly friendly staff, a cozy and laid-back ambiance, and an excellent menu selection. I'm typically hesitant about ordering fish and chips from a pub, as I usually prefer a traditional chip shop, but I was blown away by the quality here! Both of us were thoroughly impressed by the generous portion sizes and delicious flavors. After a day of hiking in Borrowdale, this meal was exactly what we needed. The restaurant also offers a great assortment of beers on tap.

We had a fab meal here last night. Arriving before six pm but the chef started service early as we weren’t the only ones ready to eat! Good local real ales on offer and a full bar selection. Me and the other half had the five bean beef chilli which was delishious and our daughter had the scafell burger which was really good too… especially the chips. When we couldn’t decide between the three desserts on offer the chef offered us a trio medley! (See picture) Very friendly and welcoming chef and bar staff and we will definitely return when in the area again.

During our week in Rosthwaite, we went to the pub three times and found the food to be consistently delicious and reasonably priced (perfect for refueling after a day of hiking in the hills!). The staff were friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was fantastic. We highly recommend the Riverside Bar!

When for an evening meal with the family. Very disappointed in the quality of the food, Chips were obviously reheated. Felt we were being rushed as staff started clearing the table for before the whole party had finished. Wouldn't recommend.

This restaurant is the perfect spot to end a day in the hills. The staff is friendly, the beer is good, the food is delicious, and the prices are reasonable. Thank you!
