Food is of good quality and the boss is nice. the farmer and forest röstis, the beef to the potence etc. all this has been swallowed unwelcome. To recommend
Our family and friends have frequented the Refuge de Frience on and off for about thirty years. Over this time we have experienced the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. The Good was often the "Delice de Foret" -- wild forest mushrooms in cream over vol au vents. We adored it especially in the old days before the old Refuge burned down and was rebuilt. The Refuge is inconsistent in large part because of its frequent changes in management and personnel, and quality control is clearly not a strength under such circumstances. Our recent experience reflects how quickly things can change. On January 1, 2017 we enjoyed an excellent Delice de Foret, and we went back on February 19th to enjoy the same with the whole family. Unfortunately, this time we experienced the Ugly. From what I could tell, the Delice had very little cream and was made with Bratenwurst paste instead. I counted no forest mushrooms (morelles or bolets,) only champignons de Paris and straw mushrooms, most likely from a tin. The Salad Melée, which usually has corn, beets, celery root, carrots, frisée and lettuce, was instead a few lettuce leaves on a bed of cabbage. The planchette (normally a selection of dried meats and cheese) had so little cheese you could not have known you were in Switzerland. And then we overheard a supervisor tell a server not to put so much wine in the wine carafes. Now times are hard, and cost cutting is often required. But the Refuge has now gone Ugly again and it will be a few years before we try to revisit. The only thing that doesn't change is its location, which is superb, and is the one reason it is worth taking the risk once in a while. And you can always enjoy a beer or a glass of wine if you have doubts about the current Menu.
Lovely place, great location and stunning surroundings with good chalet style decor both inside and out. The food was very good quality, but the service was dreadful. We ordered a starter which didn't arrive. My daughter had ordered pasta but the meal arrived with fries and no pasta. We asked for black pepper and grated cheese and it didn't arrive. We were also charged for extra coffee which we didn't have. It's such a shame that the attention to service is so dismal. There were plenty of staff on duty and they all seemed as bad as each other. Very unlikely that we'll return despite having a property very close by.
We chose a potency and were filled, homemade sauces, excellent quality beef meat, fast service and finally personal in very pleasant room, thank you spent a good evening.
