At Lovelady Shield House - Alston

I can't provide a full review since this hotel does not accept reservations through OpenTable, so I can only give it 1 star. However, we did visit separately, and the staff were very pleasant and accommodating, which deserves 5 stars.

I had a delightful meal with great service. The burger and fries were so generous that I couldn't finish it all. However, I found it a bit pricey; £7.95 for sticky toffee pudding seems quite steep.

Additionally, there was a food hygiene rating of 4 displayed in the main window facing the entrance, but upon checking the details on the back, I discovered it was from 2015. My food hygiene ratings app indicated that they actually had a rating of 2. These details are hard to overlook, especially if you have experience working for a local council. I genuinely hope they can improve their food standards and refresh the restaurant's décor, as it has the potential to be a lovely and welcoming venue.
