Tried their food for the 1st time in 4 years living in Ruidoso and being hungry and pregnant I tried their sour cream enchiladas. I tried to take a bite, the tortilla was hard and there was hardly any meat. There was zero flavor and I politely told my server and asked to try something else. She told me thats how the flautas come and theyre supposed to look. I told her I ordered the sour cream enchiladas..... So I ordered the beef enchiladas and zero flavor again. Im no cook but I have had better food elsewhere. I took 3 bites and asked my bf to try it so im not trippin. He made a face as well. I told the server im sorry but this is not to my liking and had a few bites. She said I still had to pay for it. I told her w force that I wasnt paying for it and apologized. She went away pissed off and charged my bf for his meal. I told her I know it wasnt your fault the food just didnt have any flavor and she replied with, im just a server. I asked why my bfs meal was 18.00 he only had 3 small tortillas and not even a full soda, she explained but in a rude manner. NEVER AGAIN with this place and can see why they always have an empty parking lot.
Good service, horrible food! If my son didnt like it, I would never eart here! It's DISGUSTING!
Food was tasteless, my wife ordered a shrimp caldo and it had no vegetables except for bell peppers. I ordered 7 mares and it was the same thing no flavor at all looked like it was microwaved. Service also sucked I ended up leaving a 1 dollar tip which I think I was being more than generous, I do not recommend that place if you drive by there don't even look at it just keep on driving, not worth it!
If you really want to know how good a place is, travel with three teenagers. And although I'm perfectly confident in my own ability to identify good eats, I did just that at La Sierra. Initial thoughts after arriving in the parking lot: Are the closed? Is this place godawful? There isn't a whole lot going on out here. Am I seriously about to talk in a British accent in a Mexican restaurant (a game the girls came up with)? In we went and we were greeted by a smell of damp, aged wood that I grew very fond of during my life in Wisconsin. A hostess was stationed at the front and led us to the back sun room. La Sierra is actually quite large, but it was completely empty with the exception of two other patrons that were finishing up their meals (and it was only 8 PM). The menu is quite extensive and covers just about every single Mexican dish you could possibly imagine (if you know me, you know how I feel about menus longer than a page or two). That being said everything we ordered was fair. Nothing extraordinary, but a decent meal that I had no complaints about. The chips and salsa were ehhh depending on how you feel about extremely tomato-y tasting salsas (which I am actually okay with). One-third of the teenagers and I devoured the chips so that says something...depending on how you read that. Everyone at the table got something smothered in cheese (mostly enchiladas) and while no one raved about them, everyone seemed to finish them rather quickly. I went with the Tampiqueña and even though my plate may have been slightly pricier than everyone else's, I definitely felt like I was getting more bang for my buck. The starter soup was a tomato based soup with noodles that neither I nor the waitress was aware of its name. It was simply okay. My dish came out with a thin steak, rice, beans, green onions, guac, a roasted jalapeño, a enchilada, and a taco. Wow! This dish was super filling. Again, nothing out of this world, but it hit the spot and left me filled. And who passes on dessert? Not this girl. Fried ice cream it is! The ice cream ended up being both pleasantly surprising and rather disappointing. It was huge, three scoops, but was just covered in corn flakes. And they weren't really crushed. And they weren't really covering the whole thing. And they didn't really add much flavor. Can your girl get some cinnamon? Honey? Caramel? Something? Is it phenomenal eats? No. But would I come again? Yes. The service was friendly enough, the food was good, and it has a beautiful atmosphere.
