Altötting is one of our favorites: of God and Men: the Marian Pilgrimage Shrine on the first day, then Burghausen with the world's longest castle. We stayed overnight in the top hotel in the area Münchener Hof right in the Plaza/Square of the...Pilgrimage site. It was off-season, so the reception closed by and only the guests were left inside. But the next day, the Hotel welcome us with a very good breakfast buffet in its cozy, rustic, cool restaurant that was sprawling with different sections until the terrace, right in front of the Plaza. The room we got on the first floor above the entrance and facing the Square must have been a suite the room was very big with high ceiling and huge windows, there was a walk-in section of the toilet/bath with two washbasins and huge mirrors, a big bathtub with shower, and a small toilet. The doble-bed was really big, and in a very spacious area there was a sofa-set, desk chair, big TV (with Sky and many channels), huge mirrors in the wall, and big cabinets. WiFi is available and the staff friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay in Münchener Hof next time we go yo Altötting.
The restaurant is part of the Munchner Hof hotel, which is in the main square in Altotting. The location is very nice, and the restaurant decor is smart and modern. The food was very good, but i found the service to be a little below...expectation. Even though the restaurant wasn't particularly busy, he waiters never seemed to be available and, when they did appear, they were doing something else and couldn't deal with our requests. Consequently, we waited a long time to get a drink, to give our order, and to recieve our food.
I had a quick lunch right on the square. The staff was very accommodating to my schedule as our group was soon leaving. Schnitzel and two beers. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. Well worth it for the beauty and peacefulness.
You can eat in or out under the awning with a beautiful view of the square surrounded by churches. Just breathtaking. The food choice and quality is very good and the waiter service is excellent. Our waiter was of Dutch origin called Mark and was...just so very helpful.
