Massey's Bbq - Alvarado

Food was great! Big portions. Service pretty good. Overall great experience. Wish they'd get A/C inside but there's something about sweating while eating BBQ that goes with the experience.Food: 5/5

This is my first time here and when I walked in the door an older gentleman asked me how I was doing and if I’ve been here before. After I told him no he proceeded to introduce himself as Mr Massey himself and showed me what to do. I got a chopped beef sandwich with Potato Salad. They were both great. Even the sweet tea was great. Not very often your eating lunch with the owner of a restaurant. I will definitely be coming back.

This review is based on two visits. First one was from recommendations from a local RV dealer. Ordered the sliced brisket and ribs. Brisket was dry and luke warm, the ribs were okay but not much meat. Pinto beans were bland, not much seasoning. Two is being kind, it was expensive. At least we were greeted when we came in, from behind the counter.Gave a second chance so ordered the same and added a banana pudding. Same results with the brisket but the ribs were worse, so dry and little meat it had the texture of jerky. Beans had a little seasoning this time.Got home to find they forgot the pudding and at 5 a serving you bet I drove back just to see a tiny styrofoam cup and half of it was whipped cream. I got three teaspoons of pudding.It also looked like just three teenagers were running the place that night.That's two chances I gave them and since it had gotten worse there won't be a third. Too bad, Alvarado is short for places to go to for dinner, mostly fast food burgers.Which dishes do I recommend? None.

I wont go back. The food was good but the prices are out the door crazy. A can of cola for 2.95 without a cup of ice and or refills??? That alone is crazy. Then 3.95 for banana pudding didn't seem that bad until i was served the smallest container i have ever seen. I didn't count how many bites i got out of it, but it wouldn't be hard for anyone to finish it in 2 or 3 bites. It was very tasty but not for that price. The sliced brisket was great, but left me wanting more. This place has good flavors but for what i paid next time im going out for a nice steak dinner. One star on the price point for the size of portions. Maybe im just cheap ? I know other great bbq joints that for 20 bucks im stuffed and i can leave with my drink.
