We visited this great little pub a number of times over a weekend in Ambleside. We were trying to go to other places but the charm of the Royal Oak kept calling us back. The small quirky building, friendly staff, smell of the fire, selection of drinks created just the right atmosphere, strangers chatted easily to each other and it was just lovely. To top off our visit, on Sunday evening there was live entertainment (a fantastic singer) who had no set list but engaged the crowd and let us choose what she should sing, gave out tambourines and maraca’s so we could all join in and really brought the place to life. We loved it. Definitely will be back and would recommend to anyone visiting Ambleside.
Good pub with good beer. Always felt welcome going in here whilst on an annual week away to Ambleside. Prices dearer than most Ambleside pubs. Gents toilets always smell strongly and always have over the years, hence the 4 stars.
After a long walk, I stopped by The Royal Oak for a drink. I really enjoy lively pubs where the bar staff are friendly and engage with customers. The service was excellent and the prices were reasonable for a beer and some snacks. I had a nice pint of Timothy Taylor, which was refreshing. The place was quite busy, so I didn't take any photos of the interior or exterior, but it definitely felt like a classic city pub.
This is a fantastic spot to unwind with friends and family. The food is excellent, and they offer a wide variety of local beers. I highly recommend checking this place out!
