Cozy family owned bar. at the corner behind our hotel, at the exit of the castle. had a nice beer before our dinner. nice owner and many native, badly we don't speak the language.
The caffe of the arts serves a mix of club sandwiches, burger, omelettes and croque monsieur, along with some of the most beautiful friites I had in france recently (and I grew up in france so that I had a few in my days service was efficient and. expectations of waiting time for home cooked eating were well established to avoid any disappointment, we had been in a hurry. we will be back when we ever stop in amboise
We had a very unpleasant experience at 6:30 o'clock, at the end of the afternoon, try to order some snacks with our drinks. I speak fluent French; I would have used the words that a Frenchman would have, but I clearly asked for a “snack” while. the waiter was collaboratiw, a man who seemed to be responsible in the entertainment and rudely closed our mouth, saying that the “kitchen only opens around seven”. that was hard to accept and we left.
Walk past the Chateau entrance and keep walking with the ramparts on your left. Keep going past the large pavement cafes and restaurants until you reach the very last one, the Cafe des Arts. Small with just about 6 tables outside, more like a bar...that sells food. We both had salads, the Bergere and Fraicheur. They were well presented, very fresh and delicious. The accompanying frites were piping hot. Friendly efficient service at a lovely spot, where you can sit and watch the world go by as you enjoy your food.
