The outside area (courtyard was busy and even though the owner wanted to make room for us we decided to go inside instead. What a great choice we made. We had the beautiful place to ourselves for most of the time. We chose the truffle fondue and it was served with crispy bread. It was truly delicious. They serve 4 or 5 different cheese fondues and at about 8 o'clock they sold out except for one. Not only you can go here for delicious food, they also sell tea and coffee. They are actually the Monarch's purveyors. I regret not buying a bag of tea to take home. I'll just have to go back some time ;
Holy slow as molasses service. But if you 're not in a rush and looking to escape busy Wallen, then this may be a spot for coffee, tea or beer for you. I am looking to go back simply to try their Smoking Gun beer. A dangerous beer that is made with lapsang souchong tea. They brew it themselves but alas were out when we were there.
My second time around in this restaurant, and I am not impressed by the various foods I have tried. As some of you know by now, I like to eat salads and more 'finer ' foods, with my one requisite being that I could not cook it better myself. This is not the case here. My salad had not enough dressing, no nuts at all, and was definitely not as voluminous as that of girlfriend. The 'specialty ' beer started boring me halfway through, and they only had 4 different ones to serve. First time we visited, we had the high tea with muffins, quiche, soup and brownies, and I remember not being really impressed then either. The location is awesome, which is probably why they are still in business, snagging poor tourists along the way. Have a cup of tea, would be my recommendation.
Pretty good tea/coffee selection especially for taking home. They also import varieties from all over the world, including the infamous kopi Luwak. The interior is very cosy, and tiny, with my favorite table being the round one towards the end of the interior hallway. They do have a mini-patio which is great for sitting outside when weather permits. Service has been attentive and charming by Dutch standards, although I have only had breakfast once, in a group of about 10 photographers. The menu has your basic Amsterdam fare, but the coffees are my favorite. You can even pay by Bitcoin and they can also service a special blend that you buy from the store alongside.
Went here today for the first time for coffee and lunch. This place is very cute looking but actually, I don't think I'll return here anytime soon. We went here for lunch. Even though there were 3 staff members and not so many costumers, it took them a long time to get our order. My sister asked for a tosti, but they were out of bread? weird, but okay.. let's have chicken sandwich then. While we were waiting for our meal a few others costumers left because service was so extremely slow. Also a costumer next to us asked for apple pie but they were also out on that. About our meal: Cappuccinos and tea were fine, but the sandwiches were nothing special. Could have done a better job at home. The taste was okay but quite plain and boring and I expect more when I'm eating out. They weren't cheap either; 6,90 euros I expected a lot when I went to this place and sadly I was very disappointed by the slow staff and the food. The interior is very cute though and the tea and coffee were fine and the staff wasn't unfriendly but I would not recommend this place to anyone. Way better choices around here.
