Twice a week during the summer, Michael and Dara Herlihy both consummate traditional musicians hold concerts starting at 7 pm. They draw on their vast circle of traditional musicians and storytellers, and they light a log fire in the Siopa. Houdini the Cat must not be disturbed, so you just find another chair, or stand.....
We learned that the Siopa Ceoil Music Shop was going to have a concert the next night so bought tickets. They set up chairs in the shop for a about 35 of us lucky attendees. The musicians were a couple (the wife played the violin and the husband played the accordion) and the music store owner on the accordion. An Irish dancer, who danced in Riverdance, danced on the small stage in front of the store’s fireplace. We heard wonderful Irish music and saw incredible dancing! Irish coffee was served at the intermission. A great time was had by all!! Check at the shop to see when they are having one of their concerts and don’t miss it.
We attended one of the concerts Michael puts on at the music shop during a recent visit to Dingle. Wonderful time! He invited such talented musicians, and we had an enjoyable evening listening to trad music and learning a bit more about it. At intermission, Michael and the crew serve (decaf! Irish coffees, and that's a good time to meet others who are also attending the concert. A treasured memory!
I stopped by this cozy restaurant during a tour and was impressed by the friendly owners and the building's rich history. We attended a concert there and had a fantastic time. The Irish coffees they served were especially delicious.
This shop is an interesting place to visit. It may not be a traditional cafe, but you can still grab a coffee here. The music events they host are definitely worth checking out.
