The real star is the Princess Prawns they make through. They are the most expensive item on the menu, but well worth it spicy and sweet jumbo shrimp. Just amazing. They offer affordably priced beers in the bottle and the service is great. Atmosphere is dated with wood paneling, but not a factor for me in that the food is so great. One of my favorite Chinese places in town.
I've been going to this place for years. Its location is not a normal area I am in anchoring, but we make a special trip to get food here. I think prices are easy to expensive. But I think Chinese food is worth every penny. You can sit and eat or walk what I both did. Customer service is good here. It's a whole thing at the wall, but its greatness. They have accelerated the selection of Tje foods so they have something for everyone. Expresso, Mocha, Soup, Sandwich, Burgers, Chinese (Lunch dinner specialties), they are now serving all day breakfast.
I have ordered to go from here over the years, and the fact that we were the only diners should have been a red flag, but a friend and I met there for dinner at 3-7-14. We ordered the appetizer platter, pork bread, 2 drinks and hot tea When the drinks came, I asked about the hot tea and she stood there and stared at me. I was like the hot tea with the little cups and she pretended she didn't know what I was talking about. A few sounds of the microwave later smiled and it was created with 2 coffee cups of regular tea that she asked us. The appetizer was a joke with 2 TINY pieces of every thing on it. The fried rice never came back, so we had to get up and find them to ask for them. The worst service I've ever had and how they stay in business surprises me! The sandwiches in the Pickle Barrel are terrible and also a joke! Never again!
I have the best, simple, lettuce FILLED California Sandwich today. The avocado was literally a sliver, and they used American cheese bluh. I can't believe I paid $10 for it. The only reason I gave them a second star is that bread is pretty good. I'll never go there again!
With two Chinese restaurants in such a close vicinity you would think one of them would have abandoned the location and moved elsewhere, but if you try this sit down restaurant the experience is far different from that of Pink Peppers. On the one hand I actually have a metal fork (PP only has plastic utensils) and actual dip pans for the sweet and acid sauce, while PP just placed a plastic dip cup on the plate as well as a glass with ice. Yes, this can only be table presentation, but this shows that Chef Lees actually invests more in order to give her customers a more culinary experience at home. Now on the food ive had the Kung Pao Chicken dish and the Mongolian beef dish on both within one day each other and the quality itself becomes quite frightening. First from the roasted rice at Chef Lees is traditionally shown the beautiful light brown color with all typical added vegies for more variety of tastes. I do not remember seeing one of the vegies in my fried rice at PPs, they go with another style of fried rice, but it really lacks taste. The meat developed itself were similar to the Mongolian beef, but again kitchen Kung Pao came up with more a crispy texture and taste something about PPs threw me in the texture, but I can't seem to wrap my head over why. The egg roll was also perfect with the chefs with the one I had almost burned at Pinks. In the end, bosses came out for me in all aspects I'm looking for both in delivery and in a dune, which is why I'm happy to make this to my preffered chinese (and sometimes korean) restaurant.
