But the menu offerings are weirdly limited, the preparation is completely lacking in vision, and the execution is merely acceptable. That coupled with the bizarre location is probably going to doom this place. They do have the best patio in Anchorage aside from Bradley house, so maybe that will be their saving grace. But dear gawd, the location in Fairview/downtown is abysmal. It is located next door to literally THE worst slimeball motel in the UNIVERSE. But thankfully the architecture shields the patio from Pimps n Hos R Us. My honey got the brisket sandwich, which was good, but not really memorable. It came with fries and was reasonably prices. I got the half rack of ribs and substituted fries for salad for no extra charge. Again, the food was acceptable and reasonably priced, but utterly forgettable. But lets talk about the Baked Alaska. THAT, that little masterpiece is ABSOLUTELY worth going back for. So in the future I think I'd go somewhere else for dinner and then hit the Downtown Grill for dessert and drinks. I definitely recommend visiting the grill just for the Baked Alaska; it's that good. Yum.
It pains me to report this fine restaurant appears permanently closed. RIP DTG. Tucked between a gym and an auto repair shop, this place is easy to miss. But what a great find. The staff is friendly and professional. I came for lunch, but will definitely come again for dinner. Smoked tomato soup. Wow. Ultra intense flavors. Served with a touch of creme fraiche and crusty garlic crostini. Definitely not your run of the mill tomato soup. They worked on this for a while. House specialty. Alaskan gumbo. Immense proportion! Chicken, sausage, shrimp, salmon all melding together in a wonderfully flavored gumbo with rice and two loaves of corn bread. Enough for at least two people for lunch. Terrific food And drink, nice atmosphere, and wonderful staff. What more do you want?
Why is this place not more well known? Is it the odd location next to Geico's service center and a gym? Is it that it's close to downtown but not *in* downtown? Do people even know it's here? Anyway, this is a place that does lunch and dinner and also has a full bar. The dishes are fresh and creative. The specials are always interesting. And there's hardly ever a crowd (fortunately for you, dear diner, not so fortunately for the business) If you're bored of your usual haunts, you should definitely give them a try! Don't be fooled by the generic name or the odd location, they got good stuff here!
Wow, what an amazing find here in downtown! My mom and I literally arrived about an hour ago from LA, as this is the first leg of our Alaskan vacation, and found ourselves Hangry right out of the airport. We had never been to Alaska so we figured we 'd look around to find quintessential Alaskan food. Being a foodie, I figured Yelp would help, and I got taken immediately by DT grill by their reindeer sausage gumbo on their menu. It was an 8min walk from our hotel, and almost passed the place up since the front is a little sketch. It 's wedged between a shop and an autobody shop. But the patio and inside is immaculate and modern. It was about 4pm on Wednesday so we were the only ones there but the silence was nice. I ordered the Alaskan white beer which was smooth, my mom stuck with water. We shared 2 apps since it was Happy Hour (buy 1get 1 half price and couldn 't be happier w/the shrimp grits, and buffalo chicken won tons. For meals, mom had the rib osso buco on polenta and I had the gumbo as advertised. Freaking Epic. As a foodie used to variety in LA, this took me home. You can tell by the meat falling off the bone and the tenderness of the gumbo meat that everything was made with attention. For sure one of our best first meals :
I had the pulled pork sammy for lunch with sweet potato fries. One of the best pulled pork I have had in a long time around the world. in town. Fries were good. They come with some type of cinnamon coating really put a good twist that is very original. The meal is served with a side of tangy mustard. The service was excellent, the food was excellent. I'd heard it was expensive, but for what you get, I think it was worth it. I recommend this little gem and will be coming back to try more.
