Gumbo House - Anchorage

I ordered a Fried Chicken Po Boy with potato salad online, but I ended up receiving a shrimp Po Boy without the potato salad. Even so, it was delicious! I'm sure if I had complained, I would have gotten the right order. Just be cautious with online ordering – it might be better to call. The staff in person are fantastic and very helpful!

Oh no! My first experience dining at Gumbo House was quite unfortunate. The place was swarming with flies, which didn’t give a good impression, but we decided to place an order anyway. When the waitress brought our drinks, one soda had visible mold on it, as if it had been taken straight from the cooler. When we pointed out the mold, she brushed it off with a flimsy excuse. We promptly canceled our order and left. If a can of soda can be that moldy and the dining area is infested with flies, I can only imagine what the kitchen must be like!

I ordered the blackened chicken po' boy, jambalaya, and Caesar salad. The jambalaya was the highlight of my meal, but the po' boy and the homemade Caesar dressing were excellent as well. The service was friendly and quick, and the atmosphere was really fun.

Nice little restaurant with very good food. Some items were a bit on pricey side for what you get. Staff was very friendly and personable. Definitely try out the gumbo, I know I'll be getting that again

I'm from New Orleans but am in Anchorage frequently. As such I never bothered with The Gumbo Shop. A big mistake. Their food is excellent and from this point forward I will be a regular. Great vibe and wonderful food.
