Château De Baroja - Anglet

A family of Mexican origin, Santos Suarez, built a castle in the heart of a park in 1876. In 1899, the property was purchased by Joachim de La Gandara y Navarro, Marquis de Baroja, whose property took the name and preserved. After the purchase of the castle by the Gandara family in 1899, the castle experienced some transformations under the direction of the architect Gustave Huguenin of Biarritz. Around 1944 the children of Joachim of Gandara, heirs of the estate, decided to rent quickly to sell the castle to the city of Toulouse which installs a holiday colony and broadens the property and construction of new buildings. In 1997, the property of Baroja was purchased by the city of Anglet, which received an important heritage in the heart of the city. Since then, the estate has hosted various contemporary art events and exhibitions.
