The staff were very efficient at cleaning tables. Not so good at serving. I was only having a main course. I wanted to leave because of the huge delay between clearing the table after my wife's starter and the main course. After over half an hour the waitress who took our order enquired to know if we had been served our mains. Ten minutes later we still hadn't received them, fish and chips, and scampi and chips. Ruined a few evening. Food was good but needs to be served. I do not blame the inexperienced staff. They need to be trained and supervised.
Myself and my husband booked for 4.30 on sat afternoon. We were seated outside as requested ordered and proceeded to wait 25 mins for our food which when finally arrived was overcooked and cold and looked to have been thrown onto the plate.. the staff were more interested in fawning over a large consortium out for a communion dinner then us and we were completely ignored for a further 40 mins. We were going to order coffee and desert but decided we had already paid enough to be ignored and cut our losses paid and left. Very poor service and completely over priced..will not be returning also had recommended this place to visiting friends this weekend which we have told them to cancel.
We always enjoy a visit to The Glyde Inn and we were very happy with the food and the service. Mary and other waiting staff were polite and chatty. It was a cool evening and we were happy with the shade. The canopies impact on the view but management are doing their best in the current situation and patrons need to understand that more. Fish Chips alongside the sea is hard to beat. The tartare sauce was really good. We stayed in a Motorhome on the harbour overnight and were delighted with our delicious Baps from The Hatch the following morning with coffees. Thanks to Conor and all the team. Looking forward to another visit for the fab Razor Clams.
I have wanted to visit the Glyde Inn ever since I saw Nevan Maguire review the fish offering with the chef on a recent series. If there was a chef in the kitchen last night I would be shocked! We only realised there were fish specials when we over heard a waiter tell other patrons....we were never told there were specials and had ordered the scampi and chips from the menu. €25 per portion we were expecting a scampi supper to take the light from our eyes, instead we were presented with two small bowls on a plate, one with mass produced small over cooked scampi pieces accompanied by greasy bought in chips. No salad, not even a garnish apart from a piece of lemon. A chef prepared this I very much hope not as they would have done their profession a huge disservice. Wholly appreciate hospitality are trying to make up for lost revenue due to the pandemic but this was simply daylight robbery. Also don't be lured by the picture of the outdoor seating over looking the beach and sea. The Cooley mountains are within view but you won't be able to see them. The outdoor offering is more like a war bunker. Awnings and coverings roughly put up cable tied to wrought iron railings. Nothing stylish or aesthetic. The planting between the tables and sea vista is over grown and unwieldy adding to the bunker feel. Plus you can't see over it so you could be anywhere. The internal planting is poor and full of weeds. The proprietors should really go and see the other outdoor offerings locally and how people have been inventive and clever in presenting a convivial environment to have your meal while adhering to public health restrictions. Also when we arrived we were shown to table in the shade, even though four tables were empty in the sun when we asked for a better table we were told you have to ask for a table in the sun when booking. Having never been there before one would have thought this would have been discussed on the telephone at the time of booking. How am I to know that. My crystal ball wasn't working that evening! In conclusion the programme with Nevan and the chef bears no relation to what we had last night, neither the food nor the setting. Won't ever be back. Hospitality should remember they are not the only ones to have lost out during the pandemic. We paid over €60 for a dreadful meal, luke warm tea and instant coffee. In the current environment it seems pointless to say anything to wait staff.....they are doing a job in difficult circumstances so I feel online public reviews are the only way to go.
An exelent experience at the Glyde today. We have been coming here on our drive along the east cost over the years. Its become a true gastro pub. I cant believe the bad reviews I have read. Complaints about the size of portions and the outdoor covers. The covers kept us dry, the seats held our butts.... great food, excellent, well trained staff, and seafood by the sea. Appreciate what you have folks.... thanke you Glyde. No relation, from Monaghan...
