Next to the breathtaking view over the Schelde and the free parking (which is getting an exception in Antwerp , the food is always of a decent to outstanding quality! I'm not an adventurer when I eat there so I mostly go for the steak choron, the babyback ribs or the salad with fresh tuna and feta (which is to die for! Saturday evening the restaurant turns into a club which is always a nice extra after a nice meal! And last but not least, and I think this is something which I find very important: The staff is very professional in a jovial way. Go there!
Such a great location and I always have a blast here... Or should I say, had. Due to becoming more and more popular for it's nightlife, De Kaai gets so packed on Saturdays. This Saturday, I had the feeling a sardine has more space in a can then we had in the room. Too bad because the music is really good and the crowd is nice. At this point I think the doormen should become more strict and start refusing people way more early in the evening. I would suggest that they remain not charging a cover charge because that will take a lot of advantages away. All by all, come in early. Try the food even because before 11 PM this place is a restaurant, from what I've heard it's a pretty ok restaurant. After dinner, take your place and guard your place with a few bottles so you don't have to move until after 4. Seriously, don't leave the table...
There is obviously a communication problem between the front desk and the kitchen. We, a group of 6 people, ordered dinner, and waited for more than 100 minutes (1 hour 20 minutes) for our food: Spaghetti, Lasagne, Spare ribs, etc. We pushed several times, one time the waitress said that it was coming; another time the supervisor said that it was coming; and finally, we were told by the waitress that our order was lost. The supervisor hid himself behind the bar without confronting with us the issue. After the final explanation, we still had waited around 15 minutes for our food, which was sufficient to prepare Spaghetti, Lasagne, or spare ribs. Hence, the first few answers were no more than putting us off. Considering the time wasted with no action taken, the restaurant 's management is a big question mark when the ownership of the supervisor is none. The food was ok, but certainly not worthy the time wasted or waited. Finally we got compensated by 2 free drinks each person. Not to mention that we had 2 friends who joined us 1 hour later, and they got their food before we did. However, sadly, one got something that he didn 't order.
Very nice food. Tuna steak (rare) was very good. The streak and scampi were also quite nice. Friendly service and a nice view of the water and boats.
