There is also a picturesque oven in one of the walls, below which is a table laden with crusty loaves. The bakery also offers restaurant seating if you have the time to linger for tea or lunch. Unfortunately, we did not. If time is short, feast your eyes, at then breathe in all the fantastic smells.
We were here for lunch. I had their chees tarte and a mixed salad and was very happy with it. For desert go to the bakery and chose what ever you like.
Stopped by for ice cream and Biber, also referred to as Bieber in other shops. The later is a pastry of gingerbread with an almond marzipan filling. I guess this Region is known for this cookie/pastry. All bakeries in this region sells this goodie but the flavour of it varies between and among bakeries. We had some here and we will be taking some home.
Cosy, warm, great food and coffee! I ate the "house speciality" which was a cheese and onion quiche/flan. It was delicious! Absolutely delicious! Really enjoyed our lunch there!
2 Days in Appenzell = 2 visits in this tea room to try the Appenzeller cake-specialities.I recommend you the Schlorzifladen (I've never seen somewhere else in CH).It is a cake based on 2 levels : cooked pears (Birnen) - makes like jam consistancy and saur cream (Sauerrahm) on the top - light and not too much sugary. The result is...you fell like you'll have another one (LOL).Otherwise of course another pear speciality is a kind of pear tunover. the same cooked pear paste mixed with walnuts. They also do cheese cakes, but aslo salads and so on...Nice waiters...nice ambiance. TAste pastries since each canton has its own receipts !
