The restaurant is nothing terribly fancy, but the sushi is what makes it great. The selection ranges from simple and no frills, to the artistic and complex. The owners play and invent their own rolls a lot of the time and have yet to find a bad one. I always go for the ala carte to go and have never been disappointed. What makes Fuji great to me was it was on my way home, I'd call in the order, and I could pick up food quickly and hit the road. Again, don't let the meager exterior and interior fool you. The sushi is inexpensive and great quality.
This is one of our favorite family restaurants in town. Granted, I have been to places with better quality and a better variety of sushi, but I am not sure it is possible to get a better value for sushi than Fuji. Adult buffet is $12, kids 4 and over are $3.50, and under 4 are FREE. Buffet is always well stocked with several varieties of rolls such as spicy and cream cheese in shrimp, salmon and tuna. Also have veggie rolls, sweet potato rolls, tempura rolls. Sashimi Tuna and Salmon are always on the bar, as well as Nigiri Tuna, Salmon and BBQ Eel. Fish and rolls are always fresh and Eel is great. Fuji has taught our children (4 and 6) to LOVE sushi. We like it for them because they can try sushi, but the buffet also has a lot of the standard hot and cold Chinese buffet fare. We all like the fact that they also have Ice Cream for dessert, complete with sprinkles and gummi bears. Dining room is nothing fancy, but always clean. Staff is friendly as well. If you are in the mood for sushi on a budget, I would highly recommend Fuji.
Aw Fuji what happened?! My fiancé used to come here with me about once every two weeks, it was near home, good price, and decent. Food is very basic sushi, but it tasted good and hit the spot without murdering your wallet. Hot bar was not too bad either. Some chicken, squid, lo mein, egg rolls and my personal addiction, crab rangoons. well that was then and this was now, we went in a few months ago and the place was REALLY warm.... which is kind of off putting for a sushi joint, it was muggy warm. how long can uncooked fish sit in that before its no longer safe. Not sure but the sushi we got there was NOT made fresh (guessing leftovers from the night before we were in early) rice on other rolls was way over cooked and gooey, very off-putting. The floor was sticky.... very inch of it, tuna was grey, and the hot bar items were congealed and had clearly been sitting there for hours without being tended too or replaced. There also comes a point where the kids are no longer adorable sitting in the dining area all the time, its distracting and disruptive. They are always there, watching cartoons or children's shows at obnoxious volumes. I decided to give them another chance (maybe just not a great day for them) and went back a few weeks later It was worse, smelly, food was not fresh AT ALL. Kids running around, I almost dropped a plate AND a bowl of soup. Floor clearly hadn't been cleaned since the last time. They may have been a place to be a few years ago, but they have slipped. No longer worth it. I'm not going to risk my health taking a chance there again. I just felt like I was covered in a thin layer of filth when I left. Very disappointing. This used to be once of my favorite quick easy meal places.
I have to remove 2 stars. We visited this restaurant yesterday evening for dinner, and I was very grossed out by how disgusting the restaurant was. Even the air circulating through the room felt unclean! When I went into the bathroom, it was so dirty that I questioned if I should wash my hands. It looked like they would be dirtier if I went through the process of it. Even though it looked like somebody had wiped down the sink, there was brown gunk all around the faucet that could have easily been cleaned up if somebody had bothered. The container that holds onto the towels people are supposed to use to dry their hands after they wash them is so filthy that there's no way it could give you a clean towel. And they still haven't fixed the lock on the bathroom door. It's incredibly flimsy and does not look secure at all. Even though we've always enjoyed the sushi, I am never returning to this restaurant. I would rather go to Dongpo and purchase their sushi by the roll.
I 'm not a sushi snob I 'm perfectly satisfied eating grocery store or mall food court sushi, so when I read the reviews, this place sounded right up my alley. Fuji Sushi, however served quite literally the worst sushi I 've ever had. And for Appleton, the price really wasn 't that economical you can buy two basic rolls at any of the 'regular suspect ' sushi places around town for the same price. The selection is extremely limited mostly to rolls with shredded fish, cream cheese, and/or flavored mayonnaise. The 'tempura ' rolls were something I 've never seen they were typical rolls, but the entire ROLL was coated in thick batter (I 'm talking outside of the rice) and fried. Turns out there was a good reason I 've never seen it done that way before they were absolutely dreadful. Having quickly given up on the sushi, I tried to fill up on 'hot food ', which consisted of soggy General Tso 's and bland teriyaki chicken, so I gave up on that as well. I turned to the last resort the typical Chinese buffet selection of desserts, and even THOSE were terrible. How can you mess up an Oreo? When it has the consistency of a sponge from having sat on the buffet for days, covered by a damp cloth. I ended up finishing my meal with a plate full of M&M 's, which were the only dessert that wasn 't horribly stale. Needless to say, we won 't be returning. At least we had a good laugh later in the day when we gave the fortune cookies to our kids, and even they (5 and 10 years old) complained that they were too stale to eat!
