The food was delicious—we tried three different dishes: Prime Rib, Mediterranean Pasta, and Seafood Pasta—and we left very happy. We even had the pleasure of chatting with the chef, who was a genuinely personable guy. We will definitely be returning and recommending this restaurant to our family and friends. - Kim and Earl W.
The decor had a charming country vibe with low lighting that set a cozy atmosphere. Our server was exceptionally friendly and enjoyable to chat with. The only hiccups we encountered were that our main courses took a while to arrive and my salmon, which I ordered rare, was slightly overcooked. Nonetheless, the food was quite good. We started with the lobster ravioli appetizer, which was incredibly rich, featuring generous chunks of lobster in each large ravioli. The complimentary bread was delightful—served warm and baked perfectly as a whole loaf. As a big fan of bread, I could have devoured the entire loaf, and even declined a second one when offered, knowing I would have eaten it all on my own! The salads were crisp and fresh with just the right amount of dressing. The prime rib received high praise from our group, and while my salmon was a bit dry in the center, it still had great flavor. I especially enjoyed the wild rice that accompanied it, cooked al dente and adding a nice, nutty taste. For dessert, we ordered to-go options: carrot cake and chocolate ganache cake. I savored the ganache cake throughout the week, indulging in a few bites each night—it was incredibly rich. I also tried the carrot cake, which was delicious. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience.
This restaurant has received a lot of praise, but our experience was just average, and we likely won't return. My husband ordered the filet mignon, while I had the salmon. My sisters-in-law chose a chicken dish that was undercooked and eggplant parmesan. We visited on a Saturday night during Columbus Day weekend, and surprisingly, the place was not busy at all. The staff was friendly, though. I learned that the original owners, who were also the chefs, recently sold the restaurant. I had been looking forward to trying the coconut cheesecake for dessert, but it seems that Jonathon took that recipe with him when he left.
I don't want to bash Jonathon's Table or lay into them with extreme language or interpretation. Lovely little restaurant and fine people working there. But thats honestly about where the review stops. Other than the bread served with dinner there is nothing...and I mean absolutely nothing exceptional, ambitious, noteworthy or memorable about a meal at JT's. The menu is limited and basic. The presentation of the dishes was basic. The overall flavor spectrum was basic. I am totally and completely amazed at the overall rave reviews here on TA. This place is a 3/5 at best IMO. We had a salmon dish finished with a maple glaze and a grilled swordfish. Both dishes tasted....perfectly fine of good quality....and thats it! End of the day you're paying way too much for basic good nicely prepared and utterly non impactful meals. We didnt have dessert, they presentation looked pretty nice so I'd venture the desserts might be the bomb but again I cant attest.
I have to visit this restaurant every time I visit Vermont. I have never had a better prime rib. EVERYTHING is homemade, down to the delicious, creamy homemade bleu cheese dressing! I had squash as a side to the prime rib and it totally soaked up the meat flavor. Ponytailed Steve is the best waiter. He's fun and has spot-on suggestions. I can't stop thinking about this place. Cozy, casual, and welcoming. I'll be back, again and again!
