I suspect this was down to price but after our meal, the lowest price menu at €49, we were so wowed we considered it excellent value for money. The staff were extremely polite helpful and professional. One of our group needed a gluten free diet and they ensured this was the case and checked every detail. The extra courses eg amuse bouche were just as delightfully presented and as delicious as the listed courses. We are seafood lovers and the fish dishes were all top notch but so was the steak abd the duck. The wine was also delicious: the muscadet. All in all this was a perfect evening as as photos will show, the vies from both terrace and indoor tables are beautiful.
When you live in Brixham saying that a French restaurant serves the best turbot is taking a risk. But two visits to Le Venetes, a couple of years apart, convinces me that the turbot this chef sources and his ability to cook it to perfection justifies the claim. It’s served not as a fillet but a steak and a pretty hefty steak at that. Forget about dessert! On this occasion it came with some great, seasonal girolles. My wife was enthusiastic about her sea bass alternative. But wait: it gets better. My gambas in tempura starter was stunning. Five juicy gambas, perfectly prepared. A meal in itself. And again, my wife liked very much the lobster ravioli as her starter. We skipped desserts, as I mentioned. The setting too is superb. On the water. Almost in the water, one is so close. And if you haven’t experienced the golfe de Morbihan, you need to. Some negatives. The atmosphere here is strange, as some other reviewers have noted. The staff idiosyncratic. Old fashioned? Perhaps... not friendly, other than a helpful and cheerful young lady. The wine list is weighted towards the more expensive. These issues might almost have justified knocking off a star, but that turbot merited six stars. Not cheap (allow 150 euros plus wine for what we ate) but very, very good.
The hotel and restaurant are in a beautiful, quiet setting. The hotel Reception is rather quirky, not exactly friendly nor helpful but it sort of grows on you. The suites are lovely. The views both from the restaurant and the suites are gorgeous. The restaurant is simply delicious. The maitre d' is a bit like the hotel manager/owner, not exactly friendly but he also sort of grows on you. The wifi is not straightforward but their philosophy is why need internet when you're in such a peaceful beautiful setting? We've now been twice and we'll be back.
