My husband and I are in the area visiting family this week and Fig was recommended to us for a nice lunch before we shopped around town. We were so pleased by our experience! Josh (the Chef, I think) was so kind and checked on us to ensure everything was perfect. We enjoyed the Caesar salad, bolognese and stuffed zucchini. Everything was fresh with amazing produce and very balanced. And a great price! We can’t recommend this hidden gem enough!
Small place... A little pretentious. Food was good and staff were friendly. They messed up my order but was perfectly willing to fix it. Had the grilled cheese with truffle fried. Wasn't bad at all. I would recommend. Just prepare for a little snobby stares.Food: 4/5
I ordered the Reuben Sandwich, which was fairly good but eating it was distracting because my meat had too many fatty pieces (which should have been trimmed for an enjoyable eating experience). The dressing on the sandwich was a bit lackluster, perhaps a bit more horseradish, grated onion or lemon juice was needed in the recip to elevate the flavor. My husband ordered the Scallops over noodles in a red curry sauce. The 3 scallops in the dish (only 3, for a $26 dish) were perfectly prepared and the curry sauce was exquisite. The start of the show was the Pommes frites (parmesan truffle fries). The tantalizing truffle flavor came through at exactly the right intensity.
Fig Bistro is a terrific restaurant on many levels. It is located in a charming courtyard of stores away from the crowded downtown. The food is meticulously prepared with attention to quality, taste, and presentation. The theme is a combination French and Italian that works so well. The creamy soup (leek, if I remember correctly) was wonderful to look at and savor. The farfalle bolognese was delicious, light, and satisfying. And the bread pudding was memorable and wonderful. The chef, who visits your table, is obviously dedicated to your having a good meal, and the waitstaff is friendly and very helpful. Fig Bistro is worth the short trip from downtown Asheville. It's a delightful experience to eat there.
