Oriental Express-ashford, Al

Writing this review breaks my heart. I always try to lift up businesses in small towns. Oriental Express is in the town I graduated high school in. I want it to be successful. But I also have to be truthful and the truth hurts. Oriental Express in Ashford is just not very good. I ordered Cheese Wontons, which came in a set of 8 with sweet and sour sauce. There was hardly any cheese in any of them and they did have a little crabby flavor to them. For my main entree, I chose my go-to for Chinese, General Tso's chicken. However, the menu at Oriental Express says General Chow's. Anyway, the combo is $5.95, not a bad price. But it comes with rice and vegetables. No eggroll! This has to be the only Chinese restaurant that does not give eggrolls in the combo plate. My General chow's chicken is barely spicy and worst of all, it has very little flavor. The vegetables had no seasoning. I love vegetables but just could not stand the lack of seasoning or flavor to them. I ate half of them and just couldn't take it anymore. At least, the rice was decent. But the worst of it was that there was no sound at all in the background while I sat there. No music. No TV. Just nothing except listening to people eat. That drives me insane! It was too eerily quiet while hearing people chew and swallow their food. Hearing people eat is like my scratchy chalkboard of life. I really wanted to build Oriental Express up in Ashford. But they left me with little to work with. Drive to Dothan if you want decent Chinese.

Me and boyfriend decided to try to it. Immediately entering the door I regretted it. The health score was an 87 which was off putting, but we decided to stick it through. There was nobody up front at the counter, we waited about 5 mins to sit down. We chose to do the buffet. There were not many options. The options that were there were either cold or were hot but like dried out. Everything tasted reheated. It was not a good experience.

Soooo delicious!! Best I have had in a long time. Perfectly cooked. Their egg rolls are amazing too! My go to meal is the pepper steak with onions and friend rice. You won't be disappointed

Made a Togo Order for egg drop soup upon getting home and splitting it up between the family, my little brother (10 years old) was drinking his soup and found a piece of glass in his mouth. I called the restaurant and they said they would issue me a refund but never did and we didn't even get an apology for the incident.

My wife and I wanted some Chinese take out and this is the only Chinese place in town (small town). My wife went inside to place an order and long story short, received no service at all. An employee walked out of the kitchen, saw my wife and turned right back into the kitchen. Nobody else came out to take an order. Pros: None. Nothing to judge from. Cons: No service.
