We attended the pub with friends was most disappointed with Sunday lunch to say the least ! A smaller portion is a choice of 2 meats which was small ! for another slice of meat selection (3 portion serving costs £4.50 …..thought I would get a bigger portion of gammon, but it was cut wafer thin just half a slice of gammon ! Vegetables, bland carrots peas cauliflower overcooked no taste ….probably frozen Food was just Lukewarm asked waitress to heat up which took 10 mins waiting time When the waitress finally returned with the food, it was barely warm; spending almost £15 for roast lunch I expected to feel satisfied, as were our friends . Staff like to push the desserts which were £6,50 each and to be honest nothing inspiring, lots of cream overlaid with sugar. Used to be a great pub years ago; but sadly the quality quantity is overpriced. Sadly we will not be returning as below our expectations. Better off at beefeater which we attended recently Kennington /Conningbrook carvery massive portions, great staff warm inviting atmosphere . Spent just over £100 and pricey for a bog standard Sunday lunch .
Stumbled across this gem of a place trying to find another pub, and am so glad we did! This pretty little pub is run by an Italian-British family and the welcome was as warm as you’d receive in Italy. I started with an Italian gin as recommended by the owner (delicious and then we had the specials and a variety of other dishes from the authentically-Italian menu. Considering we had only been looking for a quick bite, we ended up having 3 courses (including the kids! and we all cleared our plates. Fantastic cooking with great quality ingredients. I cannot recommend this place enough, and while it may seem out of the way, it’s actually very close to the motorway and to the Eurotunnel so easily reached if you’re going that way.
On our way to the Eurotunnel we stopped and chanced upon the Black Horse. A lovely English-Italian family-run place. Very friendly people, amazing Italian-inspired food, lovingly made desserts, a place for the kids to play, nice selection of beers on tap. Excellent g+t. We will be back when we cross the channel!
This was our second visit, and again we had superb food. Sunday lunch is a fresh carvery, served on warmed plates. Plenty of choice from the dessert trolly, all freshly made. Staff are extremely welcoming and funny, which added to the Father’s Day occasion
