I had lunch at this restaurant with three friends. We each ordered different items from the menu, all of which were delicious with generous portions and great value. The atmosphere was charming and the overall experience was delightful. I highly recommend this hidden gem.
This is a really nice looking cosy pub with a friendly welcome and a nice atmosphere. We came for a Sunday roast with friends. There was only a choice of two meats on the roast menu, which did surprise us pork or beef. Usually there is a lamb or chicken option and we did think this was a bit limited. However, they do operate a full menu on Sunday and so there were other options, unlike some pubs who have a 'roast only ' Sunday menu, so fair play to them. The food was served by super friendly staff and was perfectly good food. The carrots and parsnips, though few on the plate, were delicious and the Yorkshire pud was a triumph. However it wasn 't quite so good in other areas the meat was just 2 slices rather clumsily sliced and the veg was quite sparse and limited. We did have cabbage and a few very few, very thin carrot sticks and parsnip sticks but there were a lot of peas and cabbage. More seasonal fresh veg would have been nice to see, given the price we were paying £17 for the pork and £19 for the beef. The meat was fine but not remarkable and again the slices were a bit thick and clumsy. Some of us had bits missing from the plates eg no apple sauce as on the menu and no carrots on another plate but when we asked they quickly arrived. I said the pub was cosy. Maybe a little too cosy as our chairs were rather cramped together with 3 people on each side of what appeared to be a four seater table. I don 't know why as we had booked ahead and plenty of larger tables were free. I do have to say that the desserts were to die for. Absolutely delicious and worth every penny. No complaints there. I cannot fault the atmosphere of the pub. People were nice and friendly which is why we paid the hefty 'service charge ' automatically added onto the already hefty bill. I am not sure why a pub adds this charge though, as it is not service in the same way as a restaurant provides. It is optional and we paid it, it but on reflection I wished we hadn 't. I wish we 'd just left some cash on the table for the staff with an amount of our own choosing. The bill was very high for a Sunday dinner once a drink each was added and a couple of desserts. So to sum up, this was a Sunday roast which could have been a bit better given the price. I know where I can get superior roasts for much less. However the pub itself was lovely and the menu did look interesting and I would be pleased to return to try something else...only this time I will decide my own service charge/tip at the end of the meal.
POSSIBLY THE WORST FOOD EVER AND THEY KNEW IT AS WE DIDN'T PAY FOR ANY OF IT !!! We eat out at least twice a week and tonight has been a new low for us , cold tough steak , fish and chips with hardly any fish in the batter , ham from a packet with chips , how can they get it all so wrong !! NEVER NEVER AGAIN
Went for a family dinner. The atmosphere is great and the staff friendly. However after ordering the beef roast for £19 I ended up with three roast potatoes, one Yorkshire, a slice of parsnip and sweet potato, cabbage, and some beef. Then they brought out extra veg which was just cabbage and charged an extra £4 for it. I ordered the children's fish fingers, which got forgotten about, and when it finally arrived was a battered cod and chips...for a 5 year old. Had a great time purely because I was around family, not because of the food.
