Fantastic! We went there on a Thursday night and loved it so much we went back on Saturday. It is now our favorite restaurant in Ashland. The interior is pleasing, the service was exceptional and the food OMG! We started the first meal sharing the artichoke soup. It was one of the best soups I've ever had. When we went back, we had to have our own. Both the beet salad and the carrot salad were wonderful. Although the brussel sprouts and the corn flan were both good, they weren't my favorites. Some people have complained that the servings are small. We found the appetizers and salad portions to be normal size. The portion of brussel sprouts with potatoes was huge.We had the duck, steak and scallop entrees. I loved both the duck and scallops. They were on the small side, but delicious. I didn't care much for the steak, but I'm not a steak eater. My partner seemed to like it. The complexity of flavors and textures in the dishes put this restaurant far above the others we've tried in Ashland and we are foodies that have been coming to Ashland for 37 years. Brava to the chef and staff!
Masterful dinning experience. From the geniusly prepared soup to the artfully crafted entrees, you cannot go wrong with a single dish. Flavor pairings of every dish showcase the chefs talent and wonderful pallet. Her soups engage in the essence of their intended ingredient bringing out the most lively nuance. Desserts are joyful creations and the wine list should satisfy all your needs. Her seafood is cooked to perfection allowing their delicate flavor to shine. Highly recommend this Ashland secret.
In my opinion, in a town with a large number of good restaurants, Coquina is the best. I've dined there at least 10 times and have never been disappointed. In fact, some of the dishes have been the best Preparations I've tasted. For example, the fois gras is on a par or perhaps even better than that which I experienced at the French Laundry. That may sound sacrilegious but this chef is that good.
It's difficult to rate Coquina. The food is delicious, service excellent but the portions are way to small. No rice, no soup, no salad with your entre. I thought that was odd. So I give four stars but eat a good lunch before having dinner at Coquina.
