The staff was rude and our wait time for food was nearing 1 hour before we decided to just leave. The food is decent but absolutely not worth the trouble it takes to get it.
My wife and I have considered this place our go to restaurant until they changed the menu in May. We found that they have eliminated the best sandwich they had on the menu, the steak and cheese sandwich and they have reverted to the worst french fries from once having the best in the area, probably because they are cheaper to buy than the previous product. In addition I did not know that the sandwich category has become something called Hands cutesy but too woke for me. The other Hands products they offer are not worth trying. There is no longer anything on that menu that I would consider a to die for item any longer. As far as pricing goes I know they consider themselves a resort but they should get over themselves. I would rather go to the 99 than this place because they have good food at reasonable prices.
First off I should say that we come to Merrill's tavern somewhat often they have good food but more so for the atmospheric view. I can make great food at home but I can't get that view anywhere else. This past time we've gone, which was opening night of New Hampshire restaurants things were a bit subpar. Given the circumstances in which it was their first night back, it was understandable. I believe they were short staffed. I feel I have to mention that the filet was seriously overcooked if I'm paying $35 for a steak, and a small one at that I want it cooked to perfection. With that being said the shrimp tacos were cooked absolutely perfectly the tempura batter was light and crisp the shrimp itself was not over done which is difficult to do the pineapple pico was nice however it was in dire need of another acidic note and the avocado Crema was almost inexistent which was disappointing because it needed the cream as well. The lobster roll was a great portion of NE Lobster Meat, however was obviously thawed from frozen which is TOTALLY FINE so long as you rid the meat of the excess water content which did not happen. This resulted in a mouthful of lobster water seepage in every bite. Not the most enjoyable experience. The battered french fries were a welcome companion when aren't they? Overall the meal was good, however could've been improved. Small kinks that are easy to work out we will definitely be back Merrill's Tavern.
If you are in the mood for a delicious baked haddock dinner, head to Merrill's Tavern. Baked haddock, sautéed green beans and a baked potato is my go to dinner. Usually can walk in and get a table with no wait. Lucky to live close to this hidden gem.
