I will start with the positives ... the environment is quite nice and lively, and it is right on the main square of the city. importantly, the food is flatout excellent ... we...had a nice assortment of snacks: tlacoyos called machetes locally, chicharron, chalupas, queso fundido, etc. It was great. On the negative side, however, the service varied between inefficient and outright rude. One of the young women waitresses brusquely plopped drinks down on the table rather than serving them to the ladies first. Several of the staff were indifferent, and it took minutes to get a receipt after one was requested. So all in all, this place is nice to look at and to eat in, but the service needs a serious reformatting.
Re-visited this place almost a year later, and had a better experience. That is, we went for breakfast, and on a day that was MUCH calmer than when we went last year. The service was attentive and kind, and the breakfasts were excellent. So I...am glad to see that this place is better than it had appeared to be at first glance!
This restaurant was right on the zocalo, unlike the location that appeared on the link from TA. It offered good local food at great prices. We started with grasshoppers and guacamole. The grasshoppers were good, crunchy and spicy. We then had two of the specials,...Pipián Verde and Pipián Rojo. We shared both of them and while the flavors were different, the red more spicy, I liked both equally. It took a very long time to get our bill, over minutes, but we weren't in too much of a hurry. After dinner, we took the stairs next to the restaurant up two levels to a rooftop bar that had a great view of the volcano, Ex-Convento de San Francisco and Capilla Del Cerra De San Miguel. We used Uber to get here from Puebla and when we were ready to leave there were no cars in the area. A hotel staff member organized a taxi for us and for a reasonable US, we returned to our hotel in Puebla.
Agradable
