Clarisse was at the door to welcome us and showed us our table. Although the interior of the Bacchus is not as fancy as upscale restaurants, it was well arranged and reminded us of a nice family restaurant. We only chose one plate and it was a large magret de canard. It was delicious! The price was only 20 euros. My wife had a magret with apricots and honey. Also very good! And the price was 27 euros. The Bordeaux red wine was ok but not all that good. Just one negative remark about how my magret was served.. it had a large cover of aluminum foil over it..Probably to keep it warm. But we had to awkwardly remove it so I wouldn't have to cut into it while eating. All in all, the price is right and the eating experience at the Bacchus is worth it.
A limited choice both of food and drink but what there is is good. Starters and mains above average but deserts very average. Service good, and the price reasonable. Consider a starter and main from the a la carte rather than the menu des pelerins.
...and they do an excellent job! If you want to eat good food like at home, you should not miss to eat here! Perhaps you meet me because I'm there minimum once a month! Enjoy!
Auvillac, is a cozy small village in Tarn et Garonne. If you happen to visit it, or find yourself in the viccinity, this is the best possible place to eat. The restaurant itself looks classy with fine decoration. It is comprised of one small salon with 6 or 7 tables, so you can be sure it is calm. As in any good french restaurant the choices are limited, but they offer two menus one at 20€ and one at 35€ that won't disapoint you. We had the four of us the 20€ menu and we were impressed by the excellent quality-price ratio. A la carte you can have the usual choices of meats (duck, filet,...) form the region, and salads for entrées. In Midi-Pyrenees you can be sure to be satisfied with the classics. The culinary experience is completed by the warm service of the owner. In conclusion, there are a couple of restaurants closer to the old town, but I can assure that the extra walk (2 minutes) is worth in order to experience this hidden gem.
We came here on our third night in Auvillar, and were delighted to read good reviews! We were hungry, and walked over to Bacchus. The door was locked, but when we rang the doorbell the daughter opened the door. There was no room for 8pp in the terras (something with impossible seating) There was nobody else in the restaurant, and during our diner, they declined 6 more people to enter. As it seemed - with us 8 (4 kids, 4 adults) Bacchus was fully booked? The food was nice. Without fringes, fancy plates or cuttlery (i think the same fabric for the curtains was also used as tablecloth..) No fancy stuff, Just honest, good, freshly home-made food. Don't think the starter (beetroot gazpacho) is a treat for anyone, but u think perticulary the children will never forget the sight and taste of it. An adventure to say the least! ;)We payed 240€ in total, what we think is reasonable. But we didn't like that the daughter sold us 4 menus for our 4 kids (aged 3, 4, 8 and 11y) when we asked for just a simple childrens meal. (No children section on the menu)Beside that, we liked the evening. No-nonsense approach, good food, in an apparently private, slightly demoded decor.
